Suzuki re-enters the competitive 250cc segment of India with the fully-faired and powerful offering, the Gixxer SF 250 with updated Gixxer SF 150

Suzuki has finally launched the Gixxer SF 250 and its smaller sibling the 2019 Gixxer SF 150 in India today. The prices of the 2019 Gixxer SF 150 start at Rs. 1.09 Lakh (ex-showroom) while the quarter-litre offering from the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer is priced at Rs. 1.70 Lakh (ex-showroom).

The SF 250 will compete directly with the likes of Bajaj Pulsar RS 200, Yamaha Fazer 25, Honda CBR 250R and the KTM RC200. The Gixxer SF 150, on the other hand, will lock its horns with the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0, Honda CBR 150R and the Bajaj Pulsar 180F.

Both the newly launched SF 150 and the 250 take their styling cues from the older GSX models. The front fairing boasts a three-piece full LED headlamp unit. The front profile of both the motorcycles looks sharp and gets a clip on handlebars, fully digital instrument console, split seats and a twin barrel exhaust setup.

The Gixxer SF 250 is powered by a 249 cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel-injected, SOHC engine that produces about 26 bhp of peak power at 9000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of peak torque available at 7500 rpm. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Gixxer SF 155 is powered by the same 155 cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine, fuel injected unit. This unit is capable of producing about 14.1 PS of peak power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
The newly introduced Gixxer SF 250 underpins a revised frame like that on the Gixxer SF 155.

The motorcycle depends on a telescopic front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. The braking duties are taken care of by a disc brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear. A dual channel ABS is also offered as standard.

The Gixxer SF 250 has a kerb weight of 161 kilograms which makes it almost 6 kilograms lighter than its closest rival the Honda CBR 250R. Keeping all that in mind, we are hopeful that the motorcycle will boast the advantages of better power to weight ratio than its rivals here.

The Gixxer 155, on the other hand, too depends on telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock unit at the rear. The motorcycle gets a rear disc brake as an option but gets a front disc brake with a single channel ABS system as standard. The Gixxer SF 155 uses a 17-inch alloy wheel on both ends wrapped with 100/70-17 front and 140/60-17R rear tyre.

Suzuki Oil Cooling System (SOCS) technology helps in lightweighting as no water-cooling method is used while aiding in easy manoeuvrability as well. The company says the new motorcycles boast European design with global quality standards. After retailing 6,68,812 units last fiscal, Suzuki targets 29 per cent growth (860,000 units) in FY2020 and combined with exports, a production milestone of one million units.Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Black 1
