Suzuki aims to grab greater chunk in the highly competitive Indian scooter market with this latest premium model
Suzuki is gearing up to introduce a new premium scooter in Indian market and it could launch at the upcoming 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo. The scooter is christened as the Burgman Street and it comes belonging to the Burgman premium maxi-scooter range of the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer. The India-spec model could receive a 125 c or a 150 cc engine.
Suzuki Burgman is the company’s flagship scooter range and in global market, the brand sells 125 cc, 200 cc, 250 cc, 400 cc and 600 cc engine powered versions of the two-wheeler. Speaking about the India-spec model, the Burgman Street could receive a 125 cc engine that works in Suzuki Access 125. Also, there could be an all-new 150 cc engine as well.
In the Indian market, scooter segment has seen rapid growth in recent years. At times, scooter sales have surpassed the retail number of the motorcycles as well. While the 110 cc models sell the maximum numbers, 125 cc models too are garnering good response from buyers. In the 150 cc segment of Indian scooter market, only Vespa and Aprilia have their offerings and if Suzuki decides to launch Burgman Street 150 here, it will certainly be an interesting thing.
What’s more interesting is, Suzuki Burgman Street will be the first maxi-scooter to be sold in India since the Kinetic Blaze. Apart from a very stylish and premium urban appeal, Suzuki Burgman Street will also come with loads of features.

The upcoming maxi-scooter from Suzuki will get a fully digital instrument cluster, all-LED taillight. There will be powerful headlamps positioned at the front cowl that will give the scooter a motorcycle like appearance. You can think about the Aprilia SR 150, which can be called as a moto-scooter, but that’s way different from a maxi-scooter.
Other features onboard the Suzuki Burgman Street will include multi-function key slot, 12V charging socket, USB port, generous underseat storage capacity. The scooter will come with a very unique styling, which will give it a strong road presence for sure.
There would be a tall windshield ensuring comfortable riding experience for the rider, while the ample space at foot board area and well cushioned seat will also help the rider with better comfort. To add zing to the scooter, Suzuki might offer some entertainment option to the model. The wing mirrors is expected to be shared with the Suzuki Gixxer.
The Suzuki Burgman Street would run on 14-inch alloy wheels, similar to the Aprilia SR 150. The wheels will be wrapped with tubeless tyres. For braking duty, it will be equipped with front disc brake and a drum unit at rear. Suspension duty will be done by telescopic front forks and monoshock absorber at the back.

Suzuki is still tight lipped about the details and specification of the upcoming scooter. But we can expect it to generate similar power and torque output as the Suzuki Access 125, in case the Burgman Street gets the same engine. If the scooter receives a 150 cc engine that would generate generous power and torque output I order to make the model competitive against the Vespa 150 and Aprilia SR 150.
On the pricing front too, Suzuki will surely keep the price tag of the Burgman Street aggressive. Expect it to be priced at around Rs. 70,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The scooter is likely to be produced locally in order to achieve the lower pricing.
