It is suspected that Anton’s Jeep Grand Cherokee had a problem with its electronic shifter
Acotr Anton Yelchin from the Star Trek movie died in a freaking accident on Sunday, when he was crushed against a wall by his own Jeep Grand Cherokee, after the car rolled down his driveway in his Los Angeles house. The Jeep was in neutral position and the engine was on, as the authorities discovered.
It is also being suspected that Anton Yelchin’s Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the affected models which has been fitted with a faulty electronic shifter that don’t engage the Park always. In April, 2016 FCA announced a recall program for more than 1 million cars which were sold between 2014 and 2015.
These cars come equipped with the faulty electronic shifters, and till now a total of 41 injuries have been reported in US, because of the mishaps caused by this faulty shifters, which don’t engage Park confidently, even though the driver believes the Park has been engaged securely.
More than 100 car crashes have been reported in US because of the faulty electronic shifters in FCA models like Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Chargers. In most of the cases the vehicles rolled over the drivers after they parked the cars and exited out. In last April FCA announced a recall program for the affected cars which were targeted to alter the audible and visual warning systems for the drivers, if they open the door while the car is in neutral, and fixing the gear shifter problem as well.
Anton Yelchin was a 27 year old American film and television actor who has worked in films like Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Alpha Dog, Terminator Salvation, and his latest movie Star Trek Beyond is about to release next month in July. Meanwhile the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has initially ruled out any suspicious reason behind the death of the American actor.
