Solar Panels And Batteries Are Among Stolen From Eastern Peripheral Expressway

This is not the first time theft has happened as over the last one year, over 100 tones of steel and fencing wire from different locations have been stolen

Government collect millions of Rupees from our hard earned money as tax which is used to built better infrastructure like highways, improvement of public transport and other things. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated one of the best roads in India which is Eastern Peripheral Express highway on May 27 which starts from Kondli in Haryana to Sonepat via Noida, Ghaziabad and Bhaghpat.

The cost of total construction of highway is Rs. 11,000 crore and it was completed in record 17 months time. This is India’s first green highway as all the power comes from solar energy and he highway has 8 solar power plants which is having a capacity of 4000 kilo-watt.

Eastern-peripheral-expressway-2The expressway has provision for rain water harvesting in every 500 metres on both sides of the road. To make the journey even more beautiful there are 36 national monuments and 40 fountains. But soon after the highway was opened to public, things have not gone according to plan as solar panels, batteries, lights and so many other things have been stolen from the highway as majority of theft happened between Dasna and Kundli. The toll booths were not completed which helped the theft much easier.

The total amount of damage is not yet calculated but it will be over a million according to the officials. This is not the first time theft has happened as over the last one year, over 100 tones of steel and fencing wire from different locations have been stolen. A cutting machine was also stolen seven months ago so it is not a one-off incident.

Eastern-peripheral-expressway-3Most of these incidents are happening in a 45 km stretch of Expressway passing through Ghaziabad, Bagpat and Sonepat. The miscreants also damaged the canopy of India Gate as National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to improve security and wiring fence on the express way to stop  thefts.
