Skoda RS electric SUV won’t focus on performance, instead the Czech manufacturer is giving importance for design and experience
Skoda’s RS range of cars is known for its performance and handling. Earlier the company had so many RS models in its lineup, but later they decided to make RS range small and currently, Octavia RS is the only model in the lineup. But soon Skoda will introduce Kodiaq RS, which is the fastest production SUV around Nurburgring.
The third model in RS range will be an EV, which was not expected. Skoda’s sales and marketing head confirmed to Autocar about the upcoming EV RS model. He specified that the EV RS model will be the production version of Vision E Concept and it is the first model developed from ground up as an EV.
But the RS EV model won’t focus on performance instead the Czech manufacturer is giving importance for design and experience. The upcoming EV SUV is expected to make its debut in 2022. Skoda officially revealed Vision E concept at Auto Shanghai in China last year and later the model had its European debut at Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Vision E concept is powered by two electric motors producing 306 hp of power and top speed is 180 kph. The concept model has range of more than 500 km and the company offers fast charging also. The production version of Vision E concept comes with level 3 autonomous system.
Even though dimensions of concept is small, the company has managed to carve out good interior space. The production model will come with regular doors and conventional mirrors instead of camera on concept model. We can expect lots of high tech features and technologies to come with production model.
Skoda is also planning to introduce Fabia RS, but the current generation model will be replaced in next two years, so the RS derivative of new Fabia will only come out after 2020. But the company is giving priority for EV RS now and the Fabia RS might arrive in 2023 or 2024.
