Skoda Rapid Matte Concept sports a dark grey paint scheme, coupled with sporty red and black accents
Skoda Auto has revealed a number of cars at the ongoing 2020 Auto Expo, and one of those is the Rapid Matte Concept. As compared to the regular Rapid sedan, the car features some cosmetic updates both inside out, along with an all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol motor.
As the name suggests, the Rapid Matte concept comes with a dark grey matte paint scheme, paired with contrasting red inserts on the ORVMs, and a red strip running across the side of the car. The brake calipers have also been painted red, while the car sports new 17-inch alloy wheels covered in black.
The car sports a red trunk spoiler, along with a red lip garnish at the rear. The Rapid Matte Concept also gets a rear diffuser. Inside the cabin, Skoda has equipped the car with grey interiors, while the black seats come with Alcantara seat covers.
Mechanically, the Rapid Matte Concept comes equipped with a new BS6-compliant 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine, which will likely generates 110 PS of max power, and 200 Nm peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission as standard.
The car gets features like a leather wrapped steering wheel and gearshift selector, an automatic climate control etc. On the safety front, the car comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and Hill Hold Control (HHC) as standard.
Skoda will launch the BS6-compliant Rapid in April this year, once the latest emission norms come into effect. Along with the outgoing 1.6-litre MPI petrol motor (103.2 hp/153 Nm), the BS4 to BS6 transition will also see the Rapid lose its 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine, which makes 108.6 hp power and 250 Nm torque.
Apart from the Rapid Matte Concept, Skoda has also showcased the Karoq SUV, the Octavia RS 245, as well as the Superb facelift. The Karoq SUV comes with a sole 1.5-litre TSI engine that comes paired to a 7-speed DSG as standard, and has a max power and torque output of 150 PS and 250 Nm respectively.
The Superb facelift on the other hand, has been showcased with a 190 PS – 2.0-litre TDI engine. The Octavia RS 245 gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine with 245 PS of peak power, and 370 Nm peak torque. Only 200 units of the current-gen Octavia RS 245 will be brought to the Indian market from Europe as Completely Built Units (CBU).
