Skoda Re-launches Rapid Monte Carlo As Edition X

Skoda has been barred from using the ‘Monte Carlo’ badge following a trademark dispute with an Indian apparel brand

Skoda has re-launched the Rapid Mote Carlo by renaming it as Rapid Edition X after a court ruling has banned the Czech automaker from using the ‘Monte Carlo’ badge following a trademark dispute with a famous apparel brand with the same name. According to the court ruling, the automaker won’t be able to manufacture, advertise or sell goods with the ‘Monte Carlo’ name.

Apart from the change in name, this Edition X of Rapid sedan comes bearing all the unique design elements and features available in the erstwhile Rapid Monte Carlo. It features Skoda’s signature butterfly front grille with black paint scheme, smoked headlamps and fog lamps, dual-tone front bumper, blackened out roof and glass area and 16-inch sporty black alloy wheels as well.

It also gets sporty and bold looking rear diffuser painted in black. Not only exterior, but the cabin too carries the same features and design elements. It gets a multifunction steering wheel with premium quality leather wrapping. An all black interior theme along with red contrast stitching on seats and upholstery add zing. The steering wheel and gear lever too receive red contrast stitching.

The Rapid Edition X gets a 6.5-inch MirrorLink touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include electrically adjustable ORVMs, black accent on AC vents, front centre armrest, automatic climate control system and dual rear AC vents. So far, the interior of the Rapid Edition X appears same as the Rapid Monte Carlo.

Skoda launched the Rapid Monte Carlo in India just a few months back from Rs. 10.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets a petrol engine and a diesel motor as well, while transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox, 6-speed automatic unit. Also, there is a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox on offer. The Rapid Edition X comes with same engine and transmission options as the Rapid Monte Carlo.
