Skoda India is planning to launch 3 new vehicles in the next couple of years under 2.0 strategy, to be based on India-specific MQB AO IN platform

Skoda is tasked to lead the Volkswagen Group’s India Plan 2.0 strategy, which involves readying new India-oriented vehicles and platforms. In fact, the Czech carmaker has already been working on a new MQB AO IN platform, which is a heavily localized version of the internationally acclaimed MQB architecture. Reportedly, Zac Hollis, Direct, Sales and Marketing, Skoda India has revealed that there are at least 3 upcoming Skoda cars in India that will launch by the end of 2021.

1. Skoda Karoq

Expected Launch Date – Q1, 2020
Expected Price – Rs 19 lakh – Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom)

The first of the three upcoming Skoda cars in India will be the Karoq SUV, which will launch in the first quarter of 2020 and an Auto Expo 2020 launch can also not be ruled out. The SUV will come to us via CKD route and will be assembled at the company’s Aurangabad facility. The Skoda Karoq is underpinned by the company’s MQB platform that the SUV shares with the Kodiaq. Powering the vehicle is the tried and tested 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. The company could even launch a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine option.

2. Skoda Kamiq

Expected Launch Date – Q1, 2021
Expected Price – Rs 12 lakh – Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom)

Another Skoda SUV that is headed to India is the Kamiq compact SUV. It will become the smallest SUV in its company’s lineup, which means it will be more affordable than the Karoq. To price the model aggressively, Skoda India will make use of the MQB AO IN platform.

The India-specific small SUV could be unveiled as a pre-production prototype at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. The international-spec version, which made its debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, will lend some design cues to the India model.
