Skoda Kosmiq SUV (Hyundai Creta Rival) Global Launch Next Year

Skoda Kosmiq (Hyundai Creta-challenger) to launch next year

Skoda will launch the all-new Kosmiq to take on the cars like Hyundai Creta/ix25 and even Tata Harrier in the global markets in 2019, India launch in 2020

With the rising popularity of the SUVs around the world, premium manufacturers like Skoda are working to bring in new, mass segment SUVs to gain on the growing popularity. Skoda has been working on the all-new compact SUV that will take on the likes of Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta and upcoming Tata Harrier. However, the all-new SUV, known as the Kosmiq will be first launched in the international markets before the Indian launch.

The Skoda Kosmiq will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019. After the Volkswagen Group announced their 2.0 Turnabout plan in India, Skoda is spearheading the Indian operations. The Kosmiq would be the first vehicle that will be launched in the Indian market after the new strategy was kept in place.

The Kosmiq is underpinned by the MQB-A0 platform, which is a heavily localised version of the Volkswagen Group’s global MQB architecture. The platform has been given enough tweaks to ensure that the vehicles based on it get a competitive price tag. The MQB platform is extremely advanced and very expensive to underpin mass segment cars in India.

Coming to the design of the Kosmiq, details have not been revealed yet but it would be based on the Skoda Vision X concept. Even though the Kosmiq is an SUV by design, it may only get FWD layout like the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Arona.

The Kosmiq would be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the European markets but the Indian market is likely to get a different set of engines that would be much more fuel efficient in nature. Skoda may place the product as a premium offering in the Indian market and price it slightly higher than the competitors.

Skoda vehicles have always been known for smart design and smart features and the Kosmiq would not be any different. Skoda will officially announce the specifications and unveil the vehicle in March 2019 and the Indian launch is scheduled to happen sometime in 2020.
