6 Seater Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Cross (YHB) Launch Expected This Year

Maruti Ertiga Cross is expected to be sold through Nexa dealerships, likely have exterior enhancements to distinguish itself from the regular model

Maruti Suzuki has been enduring huge success with the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV ever since it went on sale nearly three years ago while the latest generation Ertiga has joined hands with good opening months as over 25,000 units were already retailed.

The Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and S-Cross have helped Maruti Suzuki to garner around 29 per cent market share in the UV space between April 2018 and March 2019. The largest automaker in the country is expected to introduce a flagship premium SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo and it will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza to rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and upcoming Kia Sp2i

However, before its arrival, Maruti Suzuki could be utilising the popularity of the Ertiga nameplate to bring in a new variant as we exclusively revealed previously. It appears that a six-seater version of the Ertiga is waiting in the wings to be launched before the end of this year and it might only be sold through Nexa dealerships.

Suzuki is no stranger to unveiling cross versions of the Ertiga in the past at international auto shows and the 6-seater could also be retailed in markets like Indonesia and Thailand as well. It is believed to be codenamed Maruti YHB and will have a unique exterior to distinguish itself from the regular Ertiga.

In fact, the second generation Ertiga itself has become more premium in its latest avatar and the six-seater may take it to the next step. It is expected to come with sportier cosmetic treatment with new bumpers up front and rear as well as an aggressive body kit and contrast finishes.

We do not expect any changes mechanically though as the new 1.5-litre K15B Smart hybrid petrol engine could be the only power source developing 104.7 PS and 138 Nm. As standard, it is connected to either a five-speed manual and or a four-speed automatic transmission.
