The 2019 Wagon R will be launched on January 23 and here are the seven things we know about the upcoming model
Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the new generation of Wagon R in India on January 23 and the new model has been spotted completely undisguised. The company has started dealer dispatch of the first batch of Wagon R and so many details of the hatchback are already out. Here are the top seven things we know about the upcoming Wagon R.
1. All New Design
Maruti Suzuki has given an all-new design theme for the India-spec Wagon R as it looks different from the JDM model. The front gets new grille with Suzuki logo in the middle and chrome bar, which extend toward the headlamps and it gives a sense of big car feel. The company has also given a new design for the headlamps with a revised bumper and new fog lamp inserts.
The side design is simple like earlier as the hatchback continues the tall boy theme and the company has given a black finish for the C-Pillar. The top end model of Wagon R is expected to come with alloy wheels with a new design. The tail lamps are big and the company has given a vertical design for it. Overall, the new design will appeal to the target buyers of Wagon R.
2. Updated Platform
Earlier some reports indicated the Wagon R will get the new Heartect platform, which underpins most of the new generation models instead the company has used the same platform but the engineers have made lots of changes to make it better as the new model have to meet the upcoming safety standards.
If the company went ahead with Heartect platform, it will increase the price of a new model which will make it out of reach for many potential customers. But the company has managed to keep weight down compared to earlier model as the new model is 65 kgs lighter even with the use of new materials to improve structural rigidity.
3. Standard Safety Features
The new generation of Wagon R will come with safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX points, high-speed warning alert (which debuted with new Ciaz), speed-sensing door lock, impact-sensing door unlock, front seat-belt reminder and reverse parking sensors. Like we said earlier, the company will make changes for the platform to make it safer.
4. 1.0 L and 1.2 L Petrol Engine With AGS In Both
Maruti Suzuki will offer the new Wagon R with two engine options – 1.0 L K10 and 1.2 L K12 engine. The 1.0 L K10 engine is the same from the current model with 67 bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque. But the tuning might be slightly different to extract more mileage when compared to the current unit.
The 1.2 L K12 engine already powers the Swift, Dzire and other models in the portfolio, this engine produces 82 bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Both these engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual and AGS transmission. We can expect the Wagon R to return better mileage than the current model.
5. Modern Premium Interior
The new generation of Wagon R comes with an all-new design theme for the interior as the company has given black and beige finish for the dashboard with new three spoke multi-function steering wheel. The instrument cluster also gets a new design theme and it is dominated by the big speedometer with a MID screen on the right side.
The gear lever is integrated into the dashboard, which liberates more space in the centre console and the AC vents get two different design in which the outer vent get circular design while the vents in middle get a horizontal design. The Wagon R will come loaded with lots of features and the modern design theme will appeal to young customers.
6. New ZXi variant
Maruti Suzuki has finally added Zxi variant to the lineup of Wagon R as the top end variant of the current model is VXi (O). The new top end variant will come with features like touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering mounted controls for audio, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows and more.
7. 6 New Colours
The new generation Wagon R will come with six colour options – Superior White, Silky Silver, Magma Grey, Autumn Orange, Nutmeg Brown and Poolside Blue. The current model is available in seven colour options and the company has replaced the Passion red colour with new Autumn Orange, which is one of the new colour. The company is offering only one shade of Blue colour instead of two.
