The first traces of an upcoming affordable Renault MPV came into light a few weeks ago when the spy pictures of the heavily disguised prototype emerged on the internet. There have been numerous speculations about where it will fit in the market and which type of customers it appeals to. A speculative rendering on what rumoured to be codenamed RBC has come up and it gives good idea of what we can expect from the MPV.
The digital render incorporates the French brand’s latest design language into the mix with five horizontal slats encompassing the Renault logo while the wide trapezoidal air inlets complement the sharp fog lamp housing. The front bumper blends the sleek styling profile well and the windshield is raked with high shoulders and roof rail giving a tall stance.

It is speculated to be one step higher than the Datsun Go+ and undercut the top-selling Maruti Ertiga. Renault cannot afford to have another below par vehicle because it desperately needs a new product to push along its volume sales endured by the highly popular Kwid hatchback. The CMF-A+ architecture will allow for increased dimensions but the overall length will be below four metres to maintain the MPV’s compact status.

The powertrain details of the Renault compact MPV are scarce at the moment but some reports claim that it will use the same 1.0-litre petrol engine from Kwid’s stable – only to be upgraded with the addition of a turbocharger to increase its power output. A five-speed manual transmission could be accompanied by a fuel-efficient AMT as well. Expect a launch towards the end of this year as the test mule wore production parts.
