Aprilia SR150

Aprilia launched SR 150 premium scooter in August priced at Rs. 65,000; the second SR scooter will also be sporty and aggressive

Aprilia is ready to expand its SR scooter range in India, as the company is preparing to launch a new SR model in the country in January 2017. It has already launched the SR 150 scooter in the domestic market in August. Like the SR 150, this upcoming SR scooter is also expected to come sporting an aggressive and sporty look.

The Aprilia SR 150 premium scooter looks way different than the other scooters available in domestic market. It looks like a blend between a scooter and a motorcycle. The sporty, aggressive looking model shares its engine with the other premium scooter Vespa 150. Both the premium scooters are manufactured at Piaggio Group’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra. The new SR scooter is also likely to be produced at the same plant.

Specifications of the upcoming SR scooter have not been revealed yet, but rumors suggest that it could be a 125 cc model. Therefore it has good chance to be christened as the Aprilia SR 125. Also, it could share the engine with the Vespa 125 cc scooter, in line with its bigger sibling. The design of this model could be similar as well and therefore customers will have an option to buy a sporty SR model at more affordable pricing.

Speaking about the plan of launching new SR model, Mr. Stefano Pelle, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Piaggio India has said, the company will bring the new SR model to India around January, next year. The 125 cc engine in Vespa 125 scooter churns out 9.90 bhp of peak power at 7,500 rpm and 10.60 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. Expect the power and torque output to remain similar if the upcoming SR scooter uses this same engine. Also fuel efficiency could come improved as well.
