Scania is a Swedish compay which is owned by Volkswagen. The company is one of the major players in the Indian commercial bus sector. Volvo was the undisputed king in luxury bus in India until Scania entered the market. Even though officially Scania was present in the Indian market since 2007 through partner Larsen and Toubro (L&T) which has more than 10 Scania work shops at various mining facilities.
Scania understood the potential of Indian market and the company formed Scania Commercial Vehicles India Private LTD to focus more on the Indian market. The company has invested 250 crore in India for the new plant in Karnataka to manufacturer luxury bus and other models exclusive for the Indian market as they lead green revolution with ethanol bus in Goa.

The company hasn’t given any reason to employees as why they are shutting down the plant. Scania was expected to run 55 ethanol bus in Nagpur Muncipal Corporation (NMC) area, but the company was running only 25 buses for the past 1 and half months while the other 30 buses are simply parked as the company says that lack of infrastructure at proposed parking and repairing centre are the reasons for not running the bus.

Scania Metro Link bus made its global debut in India and the company has tuned the suspension and engine to work extremely well in Indian conditions. The Metro Link buses are so popular among bus operators in India as they offer car like comfort for the passengers which is much better than Volvo. The company has so far manufactured around 1000 luxury and ethanol-run buses in India. We hope that in coming months more details about what is going on inside the company will be revealed soon.
