SAIC Volkswagen Unveiled All-New Phideon Plug-In Hybrid in Shanghai

Volkswagen unveiled the China-spec Phideon sedan at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and now along with its Chinese partner SAIC, the German brand has unveiled all-new Phideon plug-in hybrid sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show. It appears virtually identical to its regular version, but the most exciting part of the car is the environment friendly powertrain.

Once it goes on sale in the largest auto market of the world, the Volkswagen Phideon PHEV will be the German automaker’s first domestic plug-in hybrid car made in China. It carries the brand’s latest technologies, which make the Phideon PHEV a very exciting model. In terms of design, the car appears very stylish and premium looking, just like its regular version.

Up front, the sedan boasts sharp headlamps with dual-beam LED units and integrated LED daytime running lights. The front grille gets plenty of chrome garnishing and the front bumper also appears with wide air intake incorporating horizontal slats. Instead of conventional fog lamps, there are C shaped LED lights sitting at both ends of the front bumper. Apart from that, ht long hood also enhance its visual appeal.

At the side profile, the Volkswagen Phideon PHEV sports large alloy wheels, subtly flared wheelarches, chrome trim around blackened glass area, LED turn indicator integrated ORVMs, crisp character lines. The rear profile gets LED taillights. Overall, the entire car appears pretty stylish looking. Inside the cabin, the Volkswagen Phideon PHEV comes packed with premium features and luxury on offer. The top-notch quality materials used inside the cabin along with the features enhance the sedan’s appeal. It comes with a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display and a premium audio system.

Power source for the Volkswagen Phideon PHEV is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. The automaker is yet to reveal detail about the battery pack and other specifications of the powertrain. But the company confirmed that this sedan delivers 43.47 kmpl of fuel efficiency and it has an overall range of 850 km. The vehicle is capable to run on fully electric mode with the E-mode, which can be selected with just one push of a button.
