Honda planning to discontinue Mobilio MPV, is this to pave the way for BR-V?

Rumor in town is that, Honda Car India is planning to discontinue their first MPV in India Mobilio is a few days. The prime reason behind this decision might be the gradually declining in sales figure, while it might also be the plan to pave the way for the new SUV christened as BR-V, which was showcased at Auto Expo 2016, and expected to launch in the country around May end this year.

Incidentally, Honda BR-V is based on the Mobilio platform, and feature similarities with the MPV. It is also expected to come with the same pricing range like Mobilio. BR-V comes more stylish than the Mobilio. Therefore discontinuing Mobilio might benefit the upcoming BR-V.

Honda planning to discontinue Mobilio

Honda Cars India launched the Mobilio MPV in 2014, whose prime competitors has been the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which is pretty much popular in the country due to the better affordability. Apart from that, the Toyota Innova is also the most popular MPV of India and the hugely sold model in the segment as well. Although the Honda MPV offers generous amount of space inside and good amount of fuel efficiency as well, but it has always been labeled and criticized as overpriced. The Mobilio has been sold 3500 units since the launch two years ago, but the sales have been declining gradually. In January it sold only 441 units, while in February the figure went down to 226 units only.

Now, with the discontinuation Honda Cars India would expect a better prospect for the upcoming BR-V in the highly competitive SUV segment in Indian market. The BR-V will lock horn with some of the strong players in the SUV segment which include hugely popular Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and newly launched Maruti Suzuki’s first compact SUV Vitara Brezza, which has already garnered appreciation.
