Royal Enfield was one among the few manufacturers that posted positive sales growth in the month of February 2019. It racked up a total of 61,188 units last month as against 60,066 units during the same period in 2019 with YoY volume increase of 1.9 per cent. Only four motorcycles recorded sales growth for the brand last month.
The highly popular Classic 350, Bullet Electra Twinspark, 650 Twins and the Himalayan secured positive sales growths in February 2020. The dual-purpose adventure tourer was the best of the lot as it registered 116 per cent sales increase as 2,165 units were sold against just 1,001 units during the corresponding month last year.
The Chennai-based two-wheeler giant is expected to launch the new generation Classic and Thunderbird in the coming months with a brand new fuel-injected powertrain that could have its capacity slotted between 346 cc and 499 cc. Earlier this year, Royal Enfield began introducing BSVI compliant models and the Himalayan followed up with its share of updates.
The 2020 Royal Enfield Himalayan gains two new paint schemes: Lake Blue and Rock Red. It is priced from Rs. 1.86 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and gets a slew of appreciable additions including a switchable ABS system. This means the ANS can now be disengaged at the rear wheel if desired by the rider for more sideways treatment.
For the hardcore off-roading enthusiasts, it will enhance the fun on the beaten path. The improvements to braking leads to the Himalayan stopping far earlier than usual and there is also a new hazard lamp switch and a new side stand that leans more. It continues to be powered by the 411 cc single-cylinder engine.
The powertrain is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm of peak torque. The BSVI updates has resulted in a slight drop in power but the torque figure remains the same as its predecessor. Other changes in the 2020 Royal Enfield Himalayan include white backlit instrumentation and tweaked ECU for enhanced performance.
