Yes, you heard that absolutely right! If you are still not excited with the news of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 arrival, the latest one will surely rush the adrenaline in you. Recently, in an interview, the CEO of Royal Enfield, Mr. Siddhartha Lal revealed that the company is working on a bigger 650 cc Himalayan which might be due in next two or three years.
The entry-level Himalayan adventure tourer is currently being offered with a 411 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled, FI SOHC engine which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 24.5 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4,250 rpm. The engine is coupled with a five-speed constant mesh transmission sending power to the wheel.

Needless to say, the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 will come with all the bells and whistles of the existing model along with some additional off-road assistance based features we would imagine. Mr. Lal stated that the prime models by Royal Enfield will always be the 350cc ones as they are responsible for keeping the cash registers of the company ringing.
He further added that almost 10 percent of the company’s motorcycles sold in India are the 500cc models that means close to 60,000 units. The top honcho believes that there is a healthy possibility for the bigger capacity and more powerful Himalayan in India as there are many takers. Right now, Royal Enfield has set a bracket for itself that starts with 350 cc and reaches up till 650 cc.
India is currently the largest market for Royal Enfield and for this reason, the company wants to have its roots in here for any motorcycle that it develops in the future. Mr. Siddhartha Lal also stated that many models from the Royal Enfield line up might be introduced with bigger spec engines and the Himalayan is definitely one of them.
Regarding the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 650, not much details are available at the moment. RE revealed the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 amidst much fanfare at the 2017 EICMA show in Milan earlier this month. Powering the 650 twins is a brand new engine which was tested for so long in domestic as well as foreign road conditions.
The Himalayan has had a tough tenure in the market with persistent reliability issues and since the BSIV compliant model was launched in September, the problems were said to be rectified. During the unveiling of the 650 twins, Mr. Siddhartha Lal admitted that the Himalayan’s troubles had been ironed out.
It will have off-road focussed mechanical setup with knobby tyres, adjustable long travel front forks, monoshock rear, enough space to carry your adventure needs, bare-naked styling similar to its smaller sibling, round-shaped headlamp, bigger fuel tank, a new chassis, tall handlebars and wind blast protection and so on.
