Royal Enfield Classic Range Becomes Marginally Pricier Due to GST

Royal Enfield Classic range of motorcycles have become pricier by up to Rs. 4,000 due to the implementation of GST

Royal Enfield has increased the pricing of its very popular Classic range of motorcycles that includes the Classic 350 and Classic 500. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is priced at Rs. 1.35 lakh compared to the pre-GST pricing of Rs. 1.34 lakh, while the Royal Enfield Classic 500 comes priced at Rs. 1.75 lakh compared to its pre-GST pricing of Rs. 1.71 lakh (ex-showroom).

Under the new tax structure rolled out across the country from 1st April, two-wheelers with engines displacing below 350 cc draw 28% of total tax incidence compared to the previous 30% total tax amount. On the other hand, the motorcycles with engines displacing above 350 cc come drawing 3% cess over and above the 28% GST.

Despite these minor price hikes, sales figures of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Royal Enfield Classic 500 are unlikely to be affected. Interestingly, Royal Enfield is one of the fastest growing motorcycle brands in the middleweight category in India. Apart from the Classic series, it also sells models like the Bullet series, Thunderbird series, Himalayan and Continental GT.

The Classic series of motorcycles are the most sold models from this Chennai-based brand. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 comes powered by 346 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out 19.80 bhp of peak power 5,250 rpm28 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The Classic 500 on the other hand, comes powered by a 499 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that kicks out 27.20 bhp of peak power at 5,250 rpm and 41.30 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm.

Currently, Royal Enfield is developing a more powerful version of the Himalayan that will be equipped with a 750 cc engine shared with the upcoming Continental GT 750, which is going to be the next flagship model from the band. The company is also planning to update its entire portfolio with new models in next couple of years.
