Royal Enfield has allocated 250 units of the Classic 500 Pegasus Edition for India and it comes steeped in World War II history
Royal Enfield is one of the iconic brands in motorcycle industry. The Indian manufacturer introduced a new limited edition model called Pegasus Edition based on Classic 500 in UK a few days ago and it has officially been launched in India finally. The new limited model has taken inspirations from RE/WD 125 motorcycle which is known as Flying Flea. This legendary bike was used in World War II and it was manufactured at the under ground factory in Westwood, UK.
The Flying Flea played a crucial role in the World War II as these bikes were parachuted behind enemy lines and nothing like it had happened before or after as these things are not part of the military now. Royal Enfield will only manufacturer 1,000 units of Pegasus Edition and 190 units will be sold in UK.
Royal Enfield has allocated 250 units for India and bookings will commence online from July 10 onwards. The Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is available in two colours – Service Brown and Olive Drab Green. In India, the Olive Drab Green wont be sold commercially as it is similar to the green colour used exclusively for military bikes.
The Pegasus Edition also comes with bespoke set of military style canvas panniers, Pegasus logo, brown handle bar and leather strap with brass buckles across the air-filter. Royal Enfield has also given black finish for the wheels, exhaust, foot pegs, headlight bezel and kick start lever. All these things give a unique old school look for the Classic 500.
The 1000 units will also carry a unique serial number stencilled on the fuel tank which reminds us of the 250th Airborne Light Company that served during the World War II. Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Edition continues to have the same mechanical parts from the regular model.
The 499 cc single cylinder engine produces 27.2 hp of power and 41.3 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to 5 speed gearbox. Royal Enfield has managed to get one of the original Flying Flea and it is part of the Royal Enfield Collection in its UK technology centre in Birmingham, UK. The Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is priced at Rs. 2.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) and Rs. 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
