Royal Enfield Classic 350 Sales

Royal Enfield Classic 350 is the company’s best-selling motorcycle for long and it has suffered 30 per cent sales drop in May 2019

Chennai-based motorcycle maker, Royal Enfield, has reported a sales decline of 17 per cent in sales for May 2019, similar to April 2019, when they reported the same decline. The manufacturer sold 60,211 units in May 2019 as compared to 72,510 motorcycles were dispatched in the same period last year.

The previous month too, Royal Enfield sold 62,879 units with a significant drop in volumes when compared to 76,187 units that were sold in April last year. This is the fourth consecutive month of decline witnessed by the Indian motorcycle manufacturer and the overall sluggish sales in the industry is one of the responsible factors.

Among the models, the company’s best-selling Classic 350 motorcycle suffered a massive 30 per cent dip in sales. Royal Enfield Classic 350 endured 35,998 unit sales in May 2019 as compared to 51,147 in May 2018, at a dip of 29.62 per cent. The biggest dip was recorded by Classic 500, which suffered a record 74.16 per cent decline in sales.

A total of only 612 units of Classic 500 were sold in May 2019 as compared to 2,368 units in May 2018. Not only the Classic 500 but other 500cc models like the Thunderbird 500 and Bullet 500 suffered massive decline close to 65 per cent in May 2019 sales.

However the company is doing good in exports thanks to Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 sales in markets overseas. Also domestically, the 650 Twins are performing well and crossed more than 2,400 units for the first time in May 2019. Their sales momentum is expected to continue into the coming months as well.

The Classic 350 finished as the tenth most sold motorcycle in India last month. However, it used to perform way better last year. The two-wheeler industry is expected to recover in the due course of this year.
