Renault Triber MPV will be powered by the re-tuned 1.0-litre petrol engine from Kwid and is based on the updated CMF-A platform

Renault India has today hosted the global premiere of the Triber in New Delhi. The French manufacturer has the Kwid as its best-selling model for more than three years but its popularity has certainly taken a hit in recent months due to the arrival of new competition.

Moreover, the Captur has failed to impress customers in contrary to other premium SUVs. Thus, the Triber MPV carries plenty of importance for the brand to lure in new buyers as well as maintaining consistent sales if it turns out to be a success. The brand aims to achieve two lakh sales while grabbing 5 per cent market share in the next three years in India and the soon-launching Triber MPV will certainly have a big role to play in that strategy.

Following the official name unveiling of the Triber back in April, Renault has re-iterated that the global debut is hosted in India to showcase the seriousness and commitment of the brand for local customers. It will be launched in India first before going internationally.

Claimed to be “super spacious” and “ultra modular”, the Triber is underpinned by the updated version of the Kwid’s CMF-A platform and is heavily localised to keep the pricing highly competitive. It sits below the rather underwhelming Lodgy in the domestic portfolio and is expected to be priced between Rs. 4.75 lakh and Rs. 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom) upon arrival.

Renault will launch the Triber in the coming months in India and the sales target is said to stand at 60,000 units in its first full year of 2020. The Triber comes powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that can also be found under the bonnet of the Kwid hatchback. It will be producing seven more horsepower than the Kwid with more torque apparently.

The turbocharged version of the same powertrain adhering to the more stringent BSVI emission regulations will make its way before the March 31, 2020 deadline with added performance to its credits. The Triber MPV will indeed be sold in both five-speed manual and five-speed AMT transmission choices.

It features a slew of safety technologies such as dual front airbags, high-speed warning alert system, reverse parking sensors, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder and so on. As expected, the Renault Triber MPV has a familiar front fascia seen on the latest global models.

It comprises of the front grille section taking a V-shaped design and it goes well with the sleek projector headlamps and LED Daytime Running Lights that will be sold in the high-end variants.

It boasts blacked-out pillars, high ground clearance, black wheel arch cladding, roof rails and skid plates while the rear portion has horizontal LED tail lamps with Renault badge in the middle and Triber inscribed just underneath. The silhouette is of a typical MPV, to say the least within the sub-4m limitation. Features like reverse parking camera are part of the package and the triber rides on special low rolling resistance 165/80 R14 Ceat tyres.

The Triber MPV has flexible seating capacity as the seven-seater has sliding and folding second-row seats and is claimed to have roomy third-row seats. The boot can hold up to 625 litres in the five-seater configuration. The Triber MPV does offer good headroom for the occupants and targets MPV customers wanting to own a seven-seater more affordable than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

The sub-four-metre MPV comes equipped with a fully-digital LCD instrument cluster, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, refrigerated cup holders, hands-free entry, etc as the interior is surprisingly premium for what it offers. It is also claimed to have 20 per cent less maintenance cost than the B-segment hatchback.
