As for India, Renault could launch the Kwid electric variant in the near future and is currently focussed on introducing the Triber MPV

Renault has big plans to secure a profitable future with electrification as its major priority. The French manufacturer is setting a target of introducing eight new zero-emission vehicles by 2022. Renault appears to be banking on the good reception for SUVs and crossovers in particular and use these body types to full effect.

However, two additional body styles are also in the works for the upcoming eco-friendly models. Since Renault has been selling accessible crossovers in appreciable numbers across the globe, the same body type will be utilised on the future strategy with the exception being the electric powertrain in place of the conventional IC engines mainly in the B segment.

Another key point to notice is the other segments Renault will consider electrifying include large capacity vans and small affordable cars as A, B and C segments are expected to be covered with different body shapes. Renault intends to electrify passenger vehicles only as commercial vehicles are not on the agenda currently.

The electrification strategy has been revealed during the debut of the updated Zoe and it will also get an EV variant alongside the tiny Twizy and parcel van. Renault will also build an electric sedan in association with Samsung. As for India, the brand is gearing up to unveil the Triber MPV tomorrow.

The seven-seater is based on Kwid hatchback’s CMF-A platform in updated form and it will be heavily localised to keep the pricing competitive. It will be slotted below the underwhelming Lodgy and is expected to be powered by the same 1.0-litre petrol engine used in the Kwid with seven more horsepower. Renault R-Space Concept 1

It will be connected to a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT while the turbocharged version of the same petrol engine will go on sale later with BSVI compliance. The top-end variants will get several premium features including a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, reverse parking sensors, etc.
