Renault planning to introduce a six speed Automated Manual Transmission for Lodgy MPV
MPV segment in Indian automobile market is a growing and demanding segment. This segment is yet to get crowded, as not many automakers are there. While the Toyota Innova and Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga grab a large share in the segment, Renault is trying to get a fare share too.
In an attempt to do that, now they are planning to introduce a six speed AMT gearbox to their MPV offering Lodgy. Lodgy was launched in India with lots of expectation, which it couldn’t meet. Now with an AMT variant Renault is trying to boost the sales figure for this compact MPV.
Recently the French automaker launched the new Renault Duster, which came with an AMT gearbox. Undoubtedly, the Easy-R AMT gearbox is the most interesting mechanical part the new Duster sports. Both the Duster and Lodgy shares the same platform, so it would much easier for the automaker to equip the Lodgy with AMT. The AMT is expected to come in two variants, RxL and RxZ, and it would be available with a 110 PS engine.
Presently the only MPV in Indian market with automatic transmission is the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga petrol, which gets a four speed automatic gearbox. Apart from that Toyota Innova Crysta is expected to get a six speed automatic with diesel engine as well. After that Renault’s introduction of an AMT gearbox to the Lodgy will surely take its game up against the two other popular MPVs.
These days demand for an automatic transmission is higher due to the congested bumper to bumper traffics in the cities. Introducing this AMT will surely attract the customers who want a large vehicle for their family. Once launched the AMT variant Lodgy will be pricier by around Rs. 50000 than the outbound normal variants, which cost around Rs. 10.40 lakh for the RxL variant and Rs. 12.26 lakh for the RxZ variant.
