Renault Kwid to get more variants as the Climber and Racer concepts showcased at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo could be next on the line
Renault Kwid is one of the bestselling hatchbacks in Indian market at present. Since its launch in September, 2015 the car has received immense attention and popularity. Now Renault India confirms that, the company will launch new variants of Kwid in 2017 and also it will introduce more variants every year.
At the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, the French automaker showcased two concept models – Kwid Climber and Kwid Racer. Production versions of these two models could be the next Kwid variants, launching in the country in next year. In an interview, Renault India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mr. Sumit Sawhney has said that, the customers needn’t to wait for years but only months to see something new on Kwid, which has increased the speculation.
The Renault Kwid Climber is an off-roading concentrated variant, which sports aggressive front and rear bumpers, short overhang, side moulding and higher ground clearance than the regular model. It also gets diamond cut alloy wheels wrapped in off-road worthy tyres. Inside the cabin, the Climber features Nappa leather on steering wheel and upholstery.
On the other hand, the Kwid Racer is performance oriented variant of the popular hatchback. The concept model was showcased with wide air intakes, roof spoiler, rear diffuser, 18-inch alloy wheels. It is claimed to be aerodynamically efficient than its regular sibling. Inside the cabin, the Kwid Racer comes with bucket seats with four-point harness, roll-cage and a digital rev-counter as well.
The production versions of the Climber and Racer concepts could come shedding some of the features showcased at 2016 Auto Expo, which will help the automaker to keep pricing affordable. Renault India hasn’t revealed any specific launch time, but expect these models to be introduced sometime in mid 2017. Also both the cars are expected to be sold as limited edition models.
