Ahead of this year’s Paris Motor Show, the much awaited Renault Kwid EV (Electric Vehicle) was showcased as the K-Ze Concept. It will launch in China in early 2019

The much-awaited Renault Kwid EV (Electric Vehicle) has made its debut as the K-Ze electric car concept ahead of the Paris Motor Show this year. While Renault hasn’t been clear about its latest model being a Kwid-based offering, the images clearly show that it’s based on the most low-cost car that is sold by the French automaker.

In all probability, the K in the K-Ze refers to ‘Kwid’ while the Ze is for the company’s electric car division. Speaking on the Renault Kwid EV, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Groupe Renault has said, “Groupe Renault was a pioneer and is the European leader in electric vehicles. We are introducing Renault K-ZE, an affordable, urban, SUV-inspired electric model combining the best of Groupe Renault: our leadership in EV, our expertise in affordable vehicles and in forging strong partnerships.”

The Renault Kwid EV (Electric Vehicle) will first launch in China, where the test mules of the zero-emission model have been spied in the past. After that, the company could decide to launch this model globally. India could be one of the target markets as our Government has been pushing for an earlier adoption of electric vehicles.

With the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai readying to foray into the EV business, it makes ample sense for the French automaker to launch this version in India.

In China, the Renault Kwid electric car will be manufactured by a JV Dongfeng and Nissan. Called e-GT New Energy Automotive Co, the JV should commence the production of this model early next year.

Other than the Renault Kwid EV, even hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of this car are in the pipeline. The green vehicle has a driving range of 250 kms, which makes it practical for most urban dwellers.
