Renault Dacia Logan is the sedan derivative of the budget Sandero hatchback; uses fuel-efficient powertrains and has an affordable overall package
Dacia gave the Logan sedan a minor exterior update towards the end of last year and it was showcased along with its MCV and Sandero cousins at the Paris Motor Show. Standing in line with the design of the latest Dacia models, it has a revised headlamp cluster with stacked rectangles identical to the one found in the Duster SUV.
Other important design elements are the LED Daytime Running Lights, black plastic grille with chrome slats, sleek light signatures in the tail lamps, reworked bumper, enlarged fog lamps, etc. Despite being in the business for several years, the interior has largely been carried over maintaining the brand’s cheap and cheerful characteristics.
However, Dacia engineers did give a new multi-functional steering wheel and soft feel textures in the high-end variants. The significant interior changes were the addition of new storage spaces, new bottle stowage space for rear passengers, 12 V power socket, elbow rest in top-spec trims and so on. The biggest change was saved for the mechanical side though as a new engine was introduced.
Both the logan and Sandero facelifts are equipped with a new 1.0-litre SCe three-cylinder motor replacing the 1.2-litre unit. It is good enough to produce a maximum power of 75 hp and comes paired to a five-speed manual transmission. It also features automatic start/stop system.
Apart from this engine, the Logan sedan can be bought in international markets with a choice of either the 0.9-litre three-cylinder TCe 90 turbo engine, a bigger 1.5-litre four-pot dCi 75 or 1.5-litre four-cylinder dCi 90 powerplant. From the options list, customers can spec the 0.9-litre and 1.5-litre mills with Renault’s Easy-R AMT gearbox.
As the Logan has been patented in India along with its Sandero and Logan MCV, the speculation of the brand entering the market refuses to fade away. But, since Nissan already has Datsun as its low-cost budget alternative, Renault could be fancying its chances with Dacia.
