Yamaha sold 13,054 units of R15 Version 3.0 in September 2018 and registered 165 per YoY growth
Yamaha India registered record sales for R15 Version 3.0 in September 2018 as the company sold 13,054 units compared to 4921 units same month last year and the performance bike registered 165 per cent YoY growth. The third generation R15 is the only model in Yamaha’s portfolio to register positive growth last month.
In August 2018, R15 Version 3.0 registered 97 per cent YoY growth, when compared to last month, August sales are low as the company sold only 8081 units. The R15 is one of the models which helped the Japanese manufacturer to make a come back in the Indian two-wheeler industry.
The first two generations of the motorcycle sold really well in India, even though the bike is focused more towards handling rather than comfort. One of the reasons for sales spike might last month might be the launch of R15 Version 3.0 Moto GP Edition and it is the first time the company is introducing Moto GP Edition this in India.
Yamaha hasn’t made any mechanical changes on Moto GP Edition and it is finished in signature racing blue colour with Movistar logo between headlamps and ENEOS logo on the fairing. Most of the customers who opt for Moto GP Edition will add Rossi’s 46 number as it is the only thing missing on this model.
The third generation R15 was introduced at the 2018 Auto Expo and the global debut took place last year. The R15 shares the same design theme of flagship R1 with twin LED headlamps and a faux air-intake in the middle. The company has given a new design for fairing and split seat design is retained on the new model.
The R15 Version 3.0 comes with fully digital instrument cluster and the performance bike is powered by 155 cc single cylinder, 4 valves, liquid cooled engine producing 19 hp and 15 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox and top speed is 135 kph. The braking duties are handled by 282 mm disc at front and 220 mm at the rear, the company is expected to give ABS system soon.
