RE Shotgun 650 spotted again in its production-ready guise with subtle changes; likely launch later this year or in early 2024

Royal Enfield introduced the Super Meteor 650 as its new flagship offering last month with a starting price of Rs. 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The cruiser comes with a few notable first-for-RE features and it made its global debut at the 2022 EICMA show in Milan, Italy late last year before greeting the audience at the Rider Mania event.

In the previous edition of the EICMA show, Royal Enfield unveiled the SG 650 concept and its production version was expected to debut alongside the Super Meteor at the motor show last year but it did not happen. The Super Meteor 650 and the near-production Shotgun 650 were caught testing together multiple times around Royal Enfield’s manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu.

Now, new spy images of the close-to-production Shotgun 650 have appeared on the internet and this time with a number of revisions. It could be revealed at the 2023 EICMA in November before going on sale in markets like India. However, no official confirmation has been made yet. The homegrown manufacturer is also testing the Himalayan 450.

The dual-purpose adventure tourer with a new liquid-cooled engine and platform is widely reported to hit the domestic market later this year as well. The new test mule reveals the presence of a new grab rail on either side and the rear disc brake could be larger in size. The Super Meteor uses a 300 mm disc brake at the rear and it could be used in the SG too.

The twin exhaust units, one exiting on each side, appear to have been upswept a little compared to the old test mules. As for the performance, the familiar 648 cc parallel twin cylinder engine producing a maximum power output of just over 47 PS and 52 Nm of peak torque will be utilised. It will be paired with a six-speed transmission assisted by a slipper clutch.

The upcoming SG 650 is expected to be positioned below the Super Meteor. The 650 cc platform will also give rise to a classic themed motorcycle, a more affordable Bullet 650, a 650 cc adv and a faired cafe racer in the near future.
