Range Rover Evoque Convertible India launch at Auto Expo 2016 before going on sale late in the same year

Recent report on Business Standard states that the world’s first luxury convertible SUV, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, will be launched in India during the course of 2016 and likely to be imported via CBU channel. If those rumours are any true, we suppose the luxury convertible will make its India bow at the Auto Expo 2016 in February.

The bienniel event at Greater Noida vows to be the biggest show in Indian auto industry yet with more than sixty manufacturers confirmed to set their stalls up. The facelifted version of JLR’s volume performer the Range Rover Evoque was launched in November with revised exterior and interior just a couple of months after the Freelander 2 Sterling Edition was introduced in the market.

Jaguar is supposedly readying the unveiling of its first-ever entry-level premium luxury sedan, the XE, to contest a four-way battle for supremacy with Audi A4, BMW 3 – Series and Mercedes C-Class in 2016. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible made its global premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show last month and it will be sold mid-2016 in international markets under two trims: SE Dynamic and HSE Dynamic.

It will be a captivating addition to the current JLR range of models if introduced in India during the second half of next year as it’s also a volume drooling prospect for the company. The luxury soft-top convertible is essentially the sporty facelifted Range Rover Evoque crossover without a roof and with bodywork changes to compensate its absence and a sleek rear spoiler.

The light weight, five-layer, fabric top can be lowered in 18 seconds and it comes back up in 21 seconds. The impressive bit of automatic Z-folding can be performed at speeds of upto 480kmph on-the-move. The occupants will be protected by rollover bars providing “survival space” in the event of a crash.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible gets power from a 2.0-litre Si4 240hp turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed ZF automatic transmission with full-time all-wheel drive system. It could also come with the existing 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines that is tuned to produce two states of power 150hp and 180hp.

It’ll do 0-100kph in 10.3 seconds and will reach a top speed of 121mph, which is 1.3 seconds slower than the standard Evoque crossover. The 240hp petrol can go from 0 to 100kph in 8.6 seconds.

The luxury SUV convertible will have a ski hatch option for easy through loading and standard Land Rover InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with 10.2-inch touch-screen. The removal of the roof has left about a storage space in excess of 250 litres as the hard-top Evoque comes with 549 litres bootspace comparitively.
