Nissan’s Upcoming Toyota Fortuner Rival In India – What To Expect?

New Nissan X-Trail Spied India 3

New-gen Nissan X-Trail is expected to go on sale in mid 2023 and it will likely be equipped with a 1.5-litre e-Power system

Nissan India used the sell the X-Trail in its first two generations in the domestic market but the third generation did not make its way to local showrooms. However, the fourth generation will be introduced in India and its road testing has commenced. In October 2022, the Japanese manufacturer revealed three premium SUVs from its global stable in India.

The X-Trail was accompanied by the Juke and Qashqai. The seven-seater X-Trail was also confirmed to be the first one to arrive and it will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan. The latest generation X-Trail made its global debut in Japan earlier this year and it has an Euro NCAP safety rating of five stars.

The 2023 Nissan X-Trail is available in the international markets in five- and seven-seater configurations but India may only get the latter. It is expected to go on sale by the middle of the next calendar year and the prices could hover around Rs. 40 lakh. Renault and Nissan will look to bring in products from their global portfolio before the launch of heavily localised CMF-B platform based models including the next-gen Duster in the future.

The features list will likely comprise a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 10.8-inch heads-up display, upmarket surface finishes and interior trims, a 360-degree camera system, Nissan’s ProPILOT suite with ADAS techology, Bose premium surround system and so on.

The X-Trail is underpinned by the CMF-C platform which can also be found in the Mitsubishi Outlander. The new X-Trail is sold in multiple powertrain options including a 2.4-litre four-cylinder NA petrol or a hybrid system with AWD configuration. However, India is expected to feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill with mild-hybrid technology or a 1.5-litre e-Power unit which is basically a self-charging hybrid system.

The variable compression ratio 1.5-litre VC-Turbo petrol three-cylinder engine works in association with the second-gen e-Power system, which Nissan claims to be more efficient and have improved power.
