Nissan Terra (Fortuner Rival) Gets 5 Stars In ASEAN NCAP

Nissan Terra scored full five-star safety ratings in the latest ASEAN NCAP ratings and the seven-seater SUV got an overall score of 83.17 points

Nissan Terra was recently tested by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEA NCAP) and awarded full five-stars rating with an overall score of 83.17 points. The model tested was Thailand spec and the SUV is currently on sale in other Asian countries like Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam and Brunei.

The company offers features like 6 airbags, seat-belt reminder and Electronic Stability Control as standard in Vietnam and Philippines, while other countries get it as an option along with advanced safety systems like Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure, ISOFIX points and Intelligent Rear View Mirror, which is a technology introduced by Nissan.

The seven-seater SUV scored 44.70 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 20.79 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP).  During the front and side impact tests, the SUV scored full points, which shows the structural rigidity of the SUV. In the Safety Assist Technologies (SATs), the Terra scored 17.69 points.

The model tested by ASEAN NCAP is powered by the 2.3 L diesel engine producing 190 PS at 3,750 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. This engine is mated to either 7-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual gearbox. Nissan only offers the four-wheel-drive system in the top-end model as other variants get RWD.

The Terra comes with off-road specific features like hill-start assist, hill descent control, off-road meter, tyre pressure monitoring system and more. Nissan also offers Brake Limited Slip Differential (B-LSD) on the Terra, which will transfer power to the wheel which has most grip during slippery conditions.

The SUV also comes with 225 mm ground clearance as it is good enough for most of the driving conditions. The approach angle of Terra is 32.3 degree and departure angle is 26.6 degree. Nissan is expected to introduce the Terra in India next year and it will compete against Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
