Nissan Leaf Grand Touring concept is based on the second generation electric hatchback; could come more powerful than regular model

Nissan is gearing up to display a new concept model based on the Leaf electric hatchback at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon. Christened as Nissan Leaf Grand Touring concept, the car has been revealed online before appearing at the show. It is not sure if this concept will enter production or not, but if it does, it will be a very interesting product from the brand.

Also, this concept model shows that how Nissan is taking full advantage of the new generation Leaf electric hatchback. Previously, the Japanese auto major showcased Nissan Leaf NISMO concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show that grabbed everyone’s attention. The new concept car too looks very impressive from every angle.

Based on the second generation Nissan Leaf electric hatchback, the Leaf Grand Touring concept comes with a dual tone black and matte silver exterior paint scheme. It looks sharp and dynamic with its suave front fascia that includes sharp all LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, a V shaped front grille with blue accent clearly indicating towards the vehicle’s environment friendly character.

The concept also bears rectangular shaped fog lamps, a sculpted looking front bumper with a sharp splitter. At the side profile, there are sporty and stylish black alloy wheels, sharp character lines, side skirt, blackened door handles, turn indicator integrated black ORVM caps, blackened glass area and black roof as well. Wraparound LED taillights and a roof spoiler at the back enhance its appeal further.

Inside the cabin too, expect the Nissan Leaf Grand Touring concept to appear with a stylish look and loads of features. Nissan is yet to reveal any detail about the powertrain of this car. But, we can assume it will arrive more powerful compared to the regular electric hatchback.

The regular Nissan Leaf EV gets energy from a new EM57 electric motor combined with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric powertrain is capable of churning out 150 PS of peak power between 3,289 rpm and 9,795 rpm, while it also generates 320 Nm of peak torque from 0-3,283 rpm. Second generation Nissan Leaf also comes with 400 km of running range on a fully charged battery.
