Nissan sold last 50 million cars globally in 11 years compared to first 100 million vehicles sold in 50 years

Nissan has achieved the feat of selling 150 million cars globally. The Japanese auto major has sold its last 50 million cars across the world in just 11 years compared to the first 100 million vehicles sold in 50 years since the brand’s inception in 1933. The company reached 100 million mark in 2006 and 76 million of these vehicles were built in the automaker’s home country Japan.

After reaching 100 million mark, Nissan started increasing its global strategy and its alliance with Renault has proved significantly benefitting for the company. In last 11 years, Nissan has focused on localisation of its products for concerned markets that helped it to gain more market share with increased sales. At present, around 76% of Nisan vehicles are produced outside Japan, specially in US and China.

Speaking about its alliance with Renault, together the auto manufacturers became the largest group in 2017 in terms of sales. Using the synergies of the partnership, Nissan aims to increases its operations and sales further in near future. The acquisition of Mitsubishi is playing a crucial role in that strategy.

As the automobile industry is thriving towards futuristic electric mobility and advanced technologies like autonomous driving system, Nissan too doesn’t want to stay back. Just a few days ago we reported that Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi will produce 12 electric vehicles by 2022. This will certainly help Nissan to grab a sizeable chunk in the world EV market.

While globally Nissan has been a very successful brand, in India it couldn’t taste that amount of success yet. Despite having some attractive products like Micra and Terrano, Nissan is yet to see a good fortune here. However, the brand didn’t give up on Indian market and it is constantly trying to increase its sales and market share here. In order to do so, the company is preparing to bring the new Micra, Leaf EV, X-Trail Hybrid, Kicks compact SUV here. Overall, Nissan aims to roll out 8 new products in the domestic market by 2021.
