A speculative rendering based on the spy images shows what the 2019 Maruti WagonR could look like when viewed in its side profile

Recently, the first spy images of the third generation Maruti Wagon R swarmed the web space. While these pics gave us an idea about the new model’s design, we are yet to get a clear look at the new car. Based on the above images, IAB has made a rendering of the side profile of the new hatchback.

So far, the Maruti WagonR has been all about offering the maximum practicality without attempting to look really attractive. This could change with the launch of the next generation. The design of the next model seems to have been inspired from the version sold in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM). That said, we aren’t getting small tail lights integrated into the rear bumper, simply due to differing tastes in the Indian market.

If you look at the side profile, you will notice that the 2019 MarutiWagonR has a short hood, a large greenhouse, negligible overhangs, and stylish allow wheels, which is something that is available even on the current model. However, the next-gen model gets floating roof-effect due to blacked-out portion on the C-pillar.

Like the outgoing model, the new generation has a short hood, large windscreen, large windows, noticeably short rear overhangs and tiny wheels pushed out for achieving maximum usable space. The thin black garnish on the C-pillar is an interesting touch, purposed to give a floating-roof look. The interior is expected to look more modern with a new design for the panels along with more features, like a touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2019 MarutiWagonRwll be underpinned by an updated version of the current model’s platform. HEARTECT platform isn’t being used to make sure the new car doesn’t become too expensive. Even the engine will be carried over, albeit in a BSVI format.

The company might continue offering AMT as well as CNG options with its popular small car. The launch of the 2019 MarutiWagonR is expected to happen in the first quarter of 2019. Bookings could start very soon, with the production slated to start in mid-January 2019.
