The third generation Hyundai Elite i20 is expected to go on sale in early 2020 with evolutionary exterior changes

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is preparing to launch some significant products during the course of this year as the electrified Kona and new generation Grand i10 are waiting in the pipeline. The South Korean is riding high on the huge list of reservations for the newly introduced Venue, as more than 33,000 bookings were made already.

It is also working behind the curtain to refresh its range of offerings as the next generation Elite i20 and Xcent have been caught on spy cameras. After years of success, Hyundai gave the Elite i20 a facelift at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, it could not do much in closing down the sales to segment-leading Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

With a new entrant in the form of Tata Altroz waiting to be unleashed, Hyundai is wary of the threat ahead and is certainly responding with a thoroughly revised model. Expected to go on sale in early 2020 with a possible debut at next year’s Auto Expo alongside the facelifted Elantra, the next-gen Elite i20 undergoes an evolutionary approach to design.

Hyundai extensively tests its new products across Tamil Nadu where its production base is located in Sriperumbudur. The latest set of spy images comes courtesy of Motor Vikatan as test mules of the upcoming Elite i20 was seen wearing heavy camouflage.

Although not many details can be inferred, it is easy to see the 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 receiving changes as seen on the test prototypes snapped internationally. It gets a brand new cascading and sharper looking signature front grille, edgier body panels, lack of rear quarter glass, new projector headlamps, newly designed wheels, sleeker bumper section up front and rear and new enclosures with more prominent fog lamps.

The rear end, in particular, will get a more matured and compact design with updated LED tail lamps. The third generation Hyundai Elite i20 will receive a revised interior with refreshed dashboard and centre console while the features list will be upgraded with new equipment including a floating touchscreen infotainment system.

We can expect the next-gen Elite i20 to borrow features from the Venue as well. The engine lineup will likely continue with BSVI compliance. The range-topping Elite i20 N could find its way into India to rival Baleno RS, Polo GT and others.
