The new Suzuki Alto 660 replaces the Mehran 800 in Pakistan and is locally manufactured at Bin Qasim plant
The 660 cc version of the Suzuki Alto was revealed to the public at the 2019 Pakistan Auto Show just over a couple of months ago in Karachi and its pricing has now been announced. The Suzuki Alto 660 cc starts with a price tag of PKR 999,000 (Rs. 4.45 lakh) for the VX variant while the VXR costs PKR 1,101,000 (Rs. 4.90 lakh) and VXL at PKR 1,295,000 (Rs. 5.77 lakh).
The Alto 660 is the first 660 cc engine equipped vehicle locally produced by Suzuki’s Pakistani division at Bin Qasim plant and it features a 660 cc R-series (R06A) engine. It stands in place of the iconic Mehran 800 that was in business for more than three decades in Pakistan and its bookings were stopped in April.
The entry-level Alto VX does not have air conditioner while the Alto VXR does have that feature and the VXL offers air conditioning as well as an AGS automatic transmission. The range-topping model also gets dual front SRS airbags, power windows, ABS (Anti-lock) Braking System, power steering and a multimedia touchscreen infotainment system.
The Suzuki Alto 660 is offered with a standard warranty of three years/60,000 km. Sold in two manual and one full-spec automatic variants, the Suzuki Alto 660 can be had in seven different colours including the Pearl Red that was used in the launch car at Pak China Friendship Centre in Islamabad.
The eighth generation model measures 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and stands 1,490 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,460 mm. It has 170 mm minimum ground clearance and can seat four passengers with a luggage capacity of 125 litres that can be expanded up to 446 litres. It tips the weighing scale at 650-670 kilograms.
The three-cylinder petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection tech produces 39 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 56 Nm of peak torque delivered at 4,000 rpm. The engine is connected to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT. The Suzuki Alto 660 rides on 13-inch wheels and uses solid disc front and drum rear brake setup. The small hatchback is suspended on MacPherson front struts and torsion beam with coil spring at the rear.
