Offered in LXI, VXI and ZXI variants, the new generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has entered India with high anticipation and is priced between Rs. 4.19 lakh and Rs. 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The 2019 version of the tall hatchback has been more modern than its predecessor both on the inside as well as outside and is based on a brand new platform.
It sits on the fifth generation Heartect architecture that underpins Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ignis, and it has a lighter body shell with increased rigidity. Maruti Suzuki has also introduced a 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine from the Swift making 82 bhp and 113 Nm.
The lower variants continue to use the 1.0-litre unit developing 67 bhp and 90 Nm and the three-cylinder engine is mated to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT as the bigger 1.2-litre version. The largest automaker in the country has upped the game in terms of quality of the cabin while adding features like SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system.
Maruti Suzuki has also made sure buyers will get access to a variety of customisation options with packages. The Robust Package comprises of dual-tone front and rear extenders, side underbody protector, wheel arch cladding, front and number plate garnishes among others. The interior is kitted with stainless steel door sill guard, blue designer mat, new steering wheel cover and seat cover finish.
The Playtime Package concentrates on adorning the exterior and interior with orange garnish and finishes while the Casa Package enables unique styling bits on its own with diamond cross seat cover finish and black tissue bottle as some of the main highlights.
The new Wagon R’s accessory list further contains rear bumper garnish, A-pillar black tape, body covers, reverse parking assist with camera and sensors, mud flaps.
The exterior can also be individually personalised with Triad alloy wheels, wheel covers in silver or black, side moulding insert, door visor white insert, bumper corner protector and other unique garnishes. Moreover, the seat finish is offered in 12 different designs and use of materials.
