New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo – Comparison of Specifications, Dimensions, Interior, Looks & more
Mahindra and Mahindra recently launched the Marazzo MPV. On sale at a base price of Rs 9.99 lakh, the new model has several firsts to its credits. The Marazzo is the first-ever vehicle to be co-designed Mahindra’s design studio in Kandivali and Italian design house Pininfarina. It’s also the first jointly developed vehicle by Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai and Mahindra North American Technical Centre in Troy, Michigan.
It’s also the world’s first passenger vehicle to have a ladder-frame chassis with a transversely mounted engine and FWD. But is all this enough? Soon, Mahindra will have to lock horns with the second-generation of the country’s most loved MPV – the Maruti Ertiga. So, which of these will be the one that you should put your money on? Here’s our New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo comparison to help you decide –
New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo Comparison of Price :
The new Maruti Ertiga is yet to be launched and hence, it gets quite tough to be too sure about its pricing. However, it’s for sure that the new model of the Maruti Suzuki MPV will be much cheaper than the Mahindra Marazzo. Currently, the Maruti Ertiga range starts at Rs 6.34 lakh for the petrol range and Rs 8.77 lakh for the diesel range. In all probability, the new generation will cost at least Rs 50,000 more, which will take prices of the diesel range north of Rs 9 lakh.
In comparison, the Mahindra Marazzo is available only in a diesel engine variant. Currently, prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh but these will go up by a small margin in the coming days. Even if you take into account an increment of Rs 20,000, the Marazzo will end up having a base price of Rs 10.20 lakh, which will be almost a lakh rupees more than that of the new Maruti Ertiga.
Hence, in terms of pricing alone, the new gen Maruti MPV is sure to have a clear-cut pricing advantage over the new Mahindra model. So, the round 1 of our new Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo goes to Maruti Suzuki.
New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo Comparison of Specifications
The Mahindra Marazzo has gone on sale with an all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine that outputs a maximum power of `121 bhp and a peak torque of 300 Nm. It comes mated a six-speed manual transmission. This lightweight diesel engine will also power the upcoming S201 compact SUv from Mahindra. Like we said, the Marazzo becomes the first ladder-frame construction with a transversely mounted engine and FWD.
This arrangement, which has been patented as ‘Best of both world’ literally offers the advantages of both transversely mounted engines and FWD layouts typical of monocoque chassis and the ruggedness of ladder-frame setups. For now, the Marazzo will be available only with a diesel heart. A petrol engine option and an automatic transmission are in the pipeline but won’t launch before April 2020.
In comparison, the new Maruti Ertiga will launch in both diesel and petrol variants. Powering the petrol model will be the same 1.5-litre, K15B, four-cylinder engine that powers the new Ciaz. This engine outputs a maximum power of 104 bhp along with a peak torque of 138 Nm. The engine will be available with two transmission options – 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.
The diesel engine variants will be available with the same 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced engine that powers the current car. It outputs a maximum power of 88 bhp along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. However, in near future, Maruti will replace this engine with a Suzuki-developed 1.5-litre motor that will output much higher power and torque. It will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
While the Ertiga will have less power than the Marazzo, let’s not forget that it has a monocoque construction that makes it much lighter than the Marazzo. With a kerb weight of less than 1.2 tonnes, the Ertiga will be more than 400 kgs lighter than the Marazzo. Hence, any sort of power advantage that the Marazzo enjoys on paper won’t translate into any benefits when it comes to on-road performance. So, the upcoming MPV from Maruti Suzuki becomes the clear winner of this round of new Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo specifications.
New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo Comparison of Mileage
Maruti Suzuki has always been the king of fuel efficiency and the new Ertiga won’t be any different. Both its engine variants, petrol and diesel, will benefit from lightweight construction and the second generation of SHVS mild hybrid system to achieve a stellar fuel efficiency. The 1.5-ltre K15B petrol engine delivers a fuel efficiency of more than 21 kmpl on the updated Ciaz.
The Ertiga will weigh roughly 100 kgs more, which should translate into a slightly lower fuel economy. On the other hand, the 1.3-litre diesel engine variant of the current Maruti Ertiga delivers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 24.52 kmpl. It will be more or less the same for the new generation, which means that both the engine variants of the new Ertiga should offer a segment-leading fuel efficiency.
In comparison, the Mahindra Marazzo delivers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 17.3 kmpl. This is much lower than what either of the engine variants of the new Maruti Ertiga will deliver. A big reason for this is the higher kerb weight owing to the ladder-frame construction. Monocoque architecture has always been lighter than ladder-frame setups on similar cars and here is where the Ertiga scores. Hence, it’s the winner of even the third round of our new Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo specifications.
New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo Comparison of Interior space and dimensions.
The new Maruti Ertiga is much larger than the current version. It grows in length, width, and height. Its wheelbase, however, remains the same. The new generation Ertiga measures 4,395mm in length, 1,735 mm in width, and 1,690mm in height. This makes the new model 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than its predecessor. In comparison, the Mahindra Marazzo measures 4,585 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width, 1,774 mm in height.
Hence, it gets clear that the Marazzo is clearly the bigger car of the two. It towers over the new-gen Ertiga in all three aspects. Hence, even on the inside, the Marazzo is likely to hold an upper edge over the new generation Ertiga, With this, the current section of our new Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo comparison goes to the latest MPV from Mahindra and Mahindra.
New Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo Comparison Verdict

But both the models will lock horns in the fast growing MPV segment and we are sure there will be at least some sort of overlap. True, there’s a lot that differs between the two. The Ertiga is a monocoque construction and has more car-like attributes. On the other hand, the Marazzo has a ladder-frame construction and wont’ exactly offer car-like dynamics. But it will surely be more rugged.
It’s also larger and has just a diesel engine variant. Hence, all those looking for a car-like MPV that can easily accommodate 7 people in reasonable comfort can opt for the new gen Ertiga, which will also end up being a lot more fuel efficient. On the other hand, those who require a rugged MPV that has a grunty diesel engine should go for the Marazzo. With this, we would like to conclude our new Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo comparison.
