Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has been reaping good chunk of volume with its recently launched products and the waiting periods stand in testament to it. The largest automaker in the country introduced the second generation Ertiga back in November 2018. It had plenty of expectations riding on its shoulders considering that the old model was high on popularity.
So far, the new Ertiga has lived up to its anticipation and has been posting consistent sales numbers in the last four months. Besides the evolutionary changes to the exterior making it more premium and sportier than before, the seven-seater MPV is underpinned by the lightweight fifth generation Heartect platform and it also features a new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS technology.
It produces nearly 105 PS and 138 Nm and is mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The waiting period for the petrol variants stands at 24 weeks while the long-serving 1.3-litre diesel powertrain has it at a maximum 22 weeks.
The diesel engine will likely be replaced by a new in-house developed 1.5-litre DDiS 225 motor in the coming months. Exactly two months after the Ertiga’s debut, Maruti Suzuki brought in the third generation Wagon R to further liven up its entry-level segment sales.
Just as the Ertiga, the new Wagon R also sits on the Heartect architecture and it retains the tall hatch stance with India-specific exterior and interior upgrades. The 1.2-litre K series petrol engine used in the Swift has come as the surprising addition in the Wagon R and is offered in VXi and ZXi grades while the regular 1.0-litre petrol unit is retailed in LXi and VXi trims.
About 15,661 units of the Wagon R were sold last month as Maruti Suzuki has started to pick up where it left off with the previous model. Depending on the variants, the waiting period for the 2019 Wagon R ranges between 4 and 6 weeks.
