2018 Honda CR-V will be introduced in India with seven-seat layout; to be powered by a new 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 158 hp and 350 Nm torque
Honda entered the fifth gen CR-V for North America in 2017 and it is confirmed to arrive on Indian shores in the 2018-19 financial year. It will have a seven seater layout rather than just the traditional five-seat configuration. It is one of the bestselling vehicles for the brand in global automotive arena.
The Japanese brand is expected to make its presence felt big in the premium segments and the CR-V would be a handy inclusion along with a new generation Civic. Honda is taking the CR-V serious this time around considering the escalated popularity of SUVs and crossovers lately as new mechanicals will also be there.
The CR-V is currently sold in over 160 countries worldwide and about 9.4 million vehicles are sold cumulatively. Here is all that you need to know about the CR-V that has just been unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida.

As for the powertrain, the new-gen premium SUV may get a bigger 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Mated to a CVT automatic transmission, it is basically the same unit currently exists making 190 hp. The major performance enhancer will be the new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel capable of generating a maximum power output of 158 hp at 4,000 rpm and 350 Nm peak torque developed in the lower rev band of 2,000 rpm.
It could be linked to a brand new ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox or stick with same transmission options as in the existing CR-V. Honda will be offering two-wheel-drive as standard and four-wheel-drive as optional on both mills giving customers different choices to choose from.
The CR-V is a global sales churner for the Japanese auto major which will prompt the styling to remain the same but it does gain modernity. With a reworked bodywork, the new-gen CR-V comes fitted with a sleeker stance compared to its predecessor.
It features large chrome grille and is aerodynamically more efficient thanks to the auto-shutting grille. The new CR-V is expected to make a major statement against its rivals in the competitive Indian market with a stylish and upmarket presence.
It gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto. Alongside, voice controls, dual rear USB charging ports, heated side mirrors, a two-zone climate control system, auto headlamps, premium soft-touch material, remote engine start, 18 inch wheels and LED Daytime Running Lights are also present.
The fifth generation global model has more cabin space and has a restyled interior. Leather trim and wood and metal touches are combined with upmarket fit and finish. The automatic variant may have an unique push-button selector placed at the centre console while AC controls and a floating touchscreen infotainment system can also be found.
The biggest addition has to be the third row seat with reclining seat backs and dedicated AC vents. Other substantial equipment are powered tailgate, electric parking brake, four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, etc.

While the WR-V has made quite an impact and impressed in the volume space so far, the arrival of new-gen CR-V directly will enhance the brand’s portfolio.
2018 Honda CR-V Key Rivals
With an aggressive pricing, improved driving dynamics and off-road ability, the new-gen CR-V might shake up the sales pecking order against the segment leading Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
