Honda is offering the Civic petrol only with automatic transmission and diesel with manual only; the sedan is packed with lots of features from base variant onwards

Honda has officially launched the new generation of Civic today in India. The company showcased the new model for the first time at the 2018 Auto Expo and it took some time for Honda to introduce the sedan in the market. In this article, we are comparing the price of new Civic against Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.

All four models come in three variants and the petrol variant of Civic comes only with automatic gearbox while competitors are also available in manual variants. The Civic diesel gets only manual transmission while rivals offer both options. The petrol variant of Civic is available in all three variants – V, VX and ZX.

But Hyundai and Skoda are only offering petrol automatic option in the middle and top-end variants while Toyota is not offering the Corolla automatic in middle variant. The base variant of Civic petrol auto is Rs. 36,000 cheaper than the equivalent Corolla variant. But the middle variant of Civic petrol is a whopping Rs. 2.2 lakh expensive than the Hyundai Elantra.

The Civic petrol auto middle variant is Rs. 1.39 lakh cheaper than Octavia style variant. The price difference between Elantra and Civic increases in petrol auto top variant to Rs. 2.09 lakh and the Civic is also Rs. 79,000 expensive than Corolla Altis but it is Rs. 2.59 lakh cheaper than the top end petrol variant of Skoda Octavia.

Hyundai, Toyota and Skoda only offer diesel manual transmission option in the base and middle variants while Honda Civic diesel is not available in base variant. The diesel manual middle variant of Elantra is Rs. 3.25 lakh and Corolla Altis by Rs. 1.14 lakh cheaper than Civic. The new Civic is Rs. 29,000 cheaper than the Skoda Octavia.

Even though Civic is expensive, Honda is offering lots of advanced features from base variant onwards. This engine is mated to CVT gearbox and it returns 16.5 km/l. The 1.6 L i-DTEC diesel engine puts out 120 PS at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm at 2,000 rpm, mated to 6-speed manual. According to ARAI, the diesel engine returns 26.8 Km/l.
