Designed by NATC, the new generation Mahindra Scorpio will be underpinned by an enhanced architecture of the current model; ready to launch in 2020 sporting new design and features
Mahindra Scorpio is one of the bestselling and most popular SUVs from the home grown automaker. Now, the company is working on the fourth generation model of the car, which is expected to arrive in the market sometime during 2020. Mahindra’s North American Technical Center (NATC) is designing the vehicle, which would come incorporating significantly updated design and new features.
Interesting fact is that, after getting huge success in the domestic market, Mahindra is aiming global market with the new generation Scorpio. It global ambition is not hidden as we have seen the automaker striving to enter various markets in different continents across the world. In North American market, Mahindra is yet to achieve its goal and the next-generation Scorpio could play important role for the brand’s strategy for the continent.
Not only the new generation Scorpio, but Mahindra is also working on a small pickup truck, based on the SUV. Keeping the American buyer’s love for utility vehicle, the SUV and the small pickup truck could play vital role in the brand’s plan to enter the US market. Also, it will be sold in European markets as well. Apart from that, the new generation Mahindra Scorpio will strengthen the brand’s grab in the domestic SUV market.
The fourth generation Scorpio project is internally codenamed as Z101 and the company’s R&D centre in Chennai will be handling the engineering and integration work after the design is completed by NATC. The company has already acknowledged that work has began for the new generation Scorpio, but it is not keen to share the details about the SUV.
Interestingly, apart from being the largest SUV maker in India, Mahindra is currently working on its vehicles keeping eye on the global market as well. NATC based out of Michigan is playing a crucial role in that strategy. The Z101 is NATC’s second project after the U321, which is a premium MPV from the brand being developed targeting the Toyota Innova Crysta and expected to hit the market within next 12 months.
