Honda Civic is ready to return in India after skipping one generation; expected to launch at 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo
Honda is gearing up to re-launch the Civic sedan in the domestic market after skipping one generation. The tenth generation model has been already unveiled in the global market and it is expected to arrive in the country market during upcoming 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo. This upmarket executive sedan is expected to become a very important product from the Japanese company considering its new strategy to focus on premium products only.
Also, Honda Car India is expected to manufacture the Civic sedan locally at its Greater Noida plant near Delhi. With this, the brand will be able to keep its pricing competitive against the rivals. The Indian buyers are showing interest towards the premium products and Honda is trying to encash that trend with its products.

The Civic sedan was first launched in the country in 2006 and it came with a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Both manual and automatic transmission options were available with this sedan during that time. But, being positioned in a diesel focused market, this sedan couldn’t fetch a desired sales figure, which led the brand to discontinue the model in the domestic market.
Now, with the buying preference changed, Indian customers are showing more and more interest towards petrol engines and premium cars, which made the auto manufacturer hopeful about the new Civic’s success here. Despite the sales falling in the lower D segment, Honda is betting big on this car. Upon arrival, it will compete with rivals like Toyota Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra.
