BMW is going to launch the fifth generation X5 in India next year and the new model is bigger than its predecessor with loads of tech

The fifth generation BMW X5 has been spotted for the first time in India without any camouflage and we can expect the new model to be launched in early 2019. The X5 is based on the CLAR platform and the SUV share components with both 5 Series and 7 Series. BMW has increased the overall dimensions of X5 to improve interior space.

The model spotted in India is an xDrive30d variant and it is powered by 3.0 L 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 261 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm and 620 Nm of torque between 2,000 rpm and 2,500 rpm. This engine is mated to 8-speed automatic gearbox and the power will be sent to all four wheels as it is offered as a standard feature in the global spec model.

The X5 diesel model can hit 0-100 kph in just 6.5 sec and top speed is 230 kph. BMW is also offering M50d in International markets, which is powered by same 3.0 L diesel engine but the company has given quad turbo to increase power output to 394 hp and 764 Nm, mated to same 8-speed auto. With this engine, 0-100 kph time drops to just 5.2 sec and top speed increased to 250 kph.

BMW might also introduce a petrol engine also even though most buyers prefer the diesel for its efficiency. The exterior design of X5 is evolutionary as the front get new wider kidney grille with revised headlamps and it now comes with standard adaptive lights and laser headlight will be available as an option to turn night into day.

The interior continues the same design theme of BMW as the three-spoke steering wheel is familiar and the quality of materials is top notch.

The X5 now comes with two 12.3 inch screens as the instrument cluster is fully digital with new graphics and the infotainment system also get an update with improved performance. BMW is finally offering Apple CarPlay and the SUV is loaded with features like 20-inch Bowers & Wilkins music system, four-zone climate control, interior perfume system and more.
