New generation Toyota Corolla will go on sale in 2020 in India following the implementation of BSVI emission regulations

Toyota has the Corolla as its largest-selling model across the globe and is sold in different avatars to address different bands of customers. In 2018, Toyota revealed the new generation Corolla in its hatchback attire before the Touring Sport Wagon broke into the scenes but the sedan version only debuted in late last year.

Premiered at the 2018 Guangzhou International Auto Show, the sedan did make a good initial impression and is offered in Sporty and Prestige configurations based on the countries it is retailed at. The 12th generation Corolla, as expected, borrows several design cues from the hatchback version and moreover it sits on the lightweight TNGA platform.

It is bigger in dimensions as well (longer and wider with same wheelbase of 2,700 mm) and uses 2.0-litre petrol engine making 168 hp at 6,600 rpm and 210 Nm at 4,800 rpm, mated to a six-speed manual or a CVT with paddle shifters in the US. A 1.8-litre four-cylinder motor is also on the offing.
