2016 Toyota Fortuner

Indian customers are known for their keen love for SUVs and crossovers. The Toyota Fortuner’s popularity proves that very easily. Earlier this year, as an effect of diesel ban the Japanese automaker threatened that it won’t launch the all new Fortuner in India until the issue resolved. With the diesel ban lifted, almost immediately after that we spotted the new Fortuner on Indian roads testing ahead of the launch in festive season.

The new Toyota Fortuner gets a new look, which is very different from the outgoing model, but doesn’t leave the identical silhouette at all. It gets a new grille with loads of chrome garnishing, new set of headlamp clusters, which are sharper and sleeker. The front bumper too looks beefy and aggressive with the wide air intake and chrome trims. The front fascia looks a bit uplifted as well.

The side profile of the car is relatively plain looking and gets new wheel arches which are angular than the outgoing model. The wing mirrors come sporting side turn indicators, while the chrome trim around the blackened glass area, flared lower body, chrome garnished door handles. The rear sports shark fin antenna, roof spoiler with high mounted stop lamps, sleek and wide taillights, a thick chrome bar joining the two taillights, and a muscular bumper.

The interior of the car comes with T Connect 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel, analog digital combo instrument cluster, wooden trims etc. Other features include electric adjustable driver seat, cruise control, engine start/stop button. Power sources include 2.7 litre dual VVTi petrol engine, a 2.4 litre diesel unit and a 2.8 litre diesel engine.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS

Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback has been a very popular car in India, since it was launched. Inspired by the success of the regular model the Indo Japanese auto manufacturer is gearing up to launch a performance oriented version of the car which is scheduled to launch during the upcoming festive season.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS being performance variant of the hatchback dons some cosmetic updates at exterior and inside the cabin as well. The biggest talking point of the Baleno RS is certainly the powertrain though. Power source for this car is a 1.0 litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine, paired with a five speed manual transmission and churns out 109 bhp of peak power and 160 Nm of peak torque.

The 1.0 litre Boosterjet engine is first Maruti Suzuki-built turbocharged unit locally, and it is reported to come as more fuel efficient than the regular variant, and also delivering more power. Among the exterior changes, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will get a mesh grille giving the car an aggressive appearance, which will be complemented by the revised front bumper.

Expect a wider air intake to make its way into the front bumper, which will give the car a bold touch. Other updates include black alloy wheels, roof spoiler and a revised rear bumper as well. The interior could get a sporty black theme, while any major change inside the cabin is unlikely. The already popular car will surely become more appealing with the performance variant, and it will lock horn with Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Fiat Abarth Punto.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

At the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki created quite a sensation when they revealed the Ignis micro SUV. The car has been designed to cater the urban customers who demand sportiness and practicality at the same time blended in their cars. The Ignis comes with a stylish appearance, which attracts everyone’s attention, and the Indo Japanese automaker is supposed to launch the car during the festive season.

The India bound Ignis was first unveiled at 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, and the car shares the same platform with the new Baleno, which is pretty light weight, therefore ensuring better fuel efficiency and handling. Dimensionally, the car measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width and 1,590 mm in height. With the dimensional appearance, the car looks like perfect to take on the congested Indian roads and its traffic conditions.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis takes power from 1.2 litre DualJet petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel SHVS hybrid engine. With the SHVS diesel engine, the car looks more promising and appealing. The petrol engine is supposed to churn out 83 bhp of peak power and 115 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel SHVS kicks out 74 bhp of peak power and 190 Nm of peak torque.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis gets a CVT gearbox, which makes the driving experience even much better in bumper to bumper traffic conditions without affecting the fuel economy. The car is expected to deliver fuel economy of 22 kmpl and 29 kmpl for petrol and diesel respectively.

On the design front the car will come featuring projector headlamps, multi spoke alloy wheels, a stylish front grille at exterior, while the interior will receive a touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel and a sleek instrument cluster.

Renault Kwid AMT

If we are talking about entry level cars in Indian market, then Renault Kwid comes at the forefront without any extra effort. The car has become immense popular within very short span after launch. Kwid was launched last year with a 0.8 litre SCe petrol engine, and very recently, the French auto manufacturer introduced a more powerful 1.0 litre engine to the car.

The Renault Kwid is presently available with a five speed manual transmission only in both the 0.8 litre and 1.0 litre variants. But the car is gearing up to launch an AMT soon, which is supposed to enter the market during this festive season. Renault introduced the AMT technology to the new facelifted Duster earlier this year, and the technology is dubbed as Easy-R AMT. The Kwid AMT too is expected to receive the same technology.

Renault Kwid comes built on the CMF platform, and the car looks like a blend between a hatchback and a crossover. It sports an aggressive design which makes it look like mini crossover running on road. The taller stance, aggressive fascia, side body cladding, beefy bumper – everything is designed and built to attract the customers who love SUVs and crossovers but can only afford for hatchbacks.

The interior of the car too features quite impressive look and equipment, which are still not very common in entry level hatchbacks. Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai Tucson was showcased at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, and garnered pretty positive response. The car comes following the South Korean automaker’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, and once it is launched, the Tucson will be positioned below the Santa Fe and above Hyundai Creta. The SUV comes quite stylish with its beefy and muscular appearance.

The Tucson is ready to launch in India this festive season, and the car comes incorporating the design, which attracts every eye around. It gets sharp headlamp clusters which come in wrapped around manner and sporting projector units. Tata Hexa

The car received good response thanks to its completely redesigned appearance which is not only stylish but also very global.

The car can be terms as a blend between a SUV and a MPV. It looks very muscular with its butch appearance, and to make it appealing the Indian auto major has taken design cues from its subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover. Though very subtly, but the Land Rover design inputs can be felt in the Hexa. It has been designed following the IMPACT design language.

In a steeply competitive market the small hatchback has been demanding a facelift for quite long time, and now Honda Car India is all set to introduce a more sportier and aggressive looking Brio. The facelifted model has already arrived in India, and it could launch during festive season.

Few months back Honda car India launched the facelifted Amaze compact sedan in Indian market, which comes with a revised front fascia. The facelifted Honda Brio also comes with similar fascia like the Amaze facelift model. The car comes with a revised front grille which gets a black aggressive appearance with a thick metal bar running between the headlamps clusters, and it also received a sleek chrome trim. The front grille so far comes completely different than the outgoing model.

2016 Honda Accord

Honda displayed the Accord hybrid at New Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, and now the car is gearing up to launch in India during this festive season. The most talked USP of the Honda Accord is certainly the hybrid powertrain, and as part of the Japanese automaker’s policy for Indian market this car is going to play a very important role indeed.

The hybrid powertrain includes a 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol engine which is combined with 1.3 kW Li-ion battery pack. This engine is also equipped with the Honda Earth Dream technology, making it significantly environment friendly. The hybrid powertrain churns out 212 bhp of peak power, and delivers a fuel economy of 23.8 kmpl. An electronic CVT gearbox does the transmission duty in the car, and it comes with multi driving mode as well, which makes driving fun.

The upcoming Honda Accord comes with a stylish design language as well. The facelifted version of the Skoda rapid sedan has been spied testing on Indian roads several times, and the car is ready to launch in this festive season. The car comes with a revised fascia, and features as well. The Skoda Rapid facelift’s front fascia gets new headlamp clusters, new grille, and revised front bumper.

Skoda is known for making sharper looking cars, and the upcoming Skoda Rapid facelift too bears the design elements, which make the car sporty and sharper. The side profile of the car comes with redesigned fenders, and it looks that the Czech auto manufacturer comes following the brand’s global design language while redesigning the rapid sedan.

Tata Kite 5 Sedan

Tata Tiago was launched in India after plenty of drama, but the car gained attention in very short span. At the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, a compact sedan named Tata Kite 5 sedan was also displayed alongside the Tiago hatchback, and the Kite 5 is the compact sedan sibling of the Tiago. The sedan is expected to launch during the upcoming festive season.

Being the sibling of the Tata Tiago, the Kite 5 sedan comes designed following the IMPACT design language and it bears the identical front fascia. It sports sharp headlamp clusters, piano black finished smiling pattern front grille and wide air intake with horizontal slats running through the centre, while the fog lamps come chrome garnished. The side profile gets alloy wheels, sharp character lines, blackened glass area.

At the rear profile the Tata Kite 5 compact sedan the car comes with thick chrome bar joining the two taillights. The interior too comes quite impressive, as the car features a multifunction steering wheel, analog digital combo instrument cluster, a hexagonal center console with digital display. The powertrain options are also same with the Tiago. It comes powered by a 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine kicking out 83 bhp of peak power and 114 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant draws power from a 1.05 litre Revotorq CRDI turbo diesel engine churning out 69 bhp of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is done by a five speed manual gearbox in both the petrol and diesel variants.

Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar was never known for making SUVs or crossovers, but with the F-Pace it has broken the trend. The F-Pace comes as the first SUV from the British marquee, and it is ready to launch in India this festive season. The car received immense popularity and become the best selling Jaguar vehicle ever in short span after launch, and in India too, the auto manufacturer is hoping a good result.

The car was officially unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and later on the car was displayed at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo as well. The car takes design cue from its luxury sedan siblings XE and XF. The F-Pace gets four different variants –Pure, Prestige, R-Sport and First Edition.

On the powertrain front, the Pure and Prestige come taking power from the company’s all new Ingenium diesel engines which churns out 177 bhp of peak power and 480 Nm of peak torque, while the R-Sport and First Edition are powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine generating around 300 bhp of peak power and massive 700 Nm of peak torque. An eight speed automatic gearbox does the transmission duty in the car.

Honda WR-V (Jazz Cross)

It has been reported earlier that the Honda Car India has been working on a crossover which is based on the premium hatchback Jazz. The all new Jazz was launched last year and it has received quite good response, and now the Japanese automaker has developed a crossover which comes derived from the Jazz. It can be expected that the car would come into public during the upcoming festive season at Sao Paulo Auto Show though.

The crossover is supposed to be named as the WR-V, and it comes with sharp wrap around headlamp clusters, V shaped aggressive looking chrome garnished front grille, a large air intake at the bold front bumper, skid plate, fog lamps. It also comes with side body cladding, roof rail, turn indicator integrated wing mirrors, blackened glass area and sharp character lines.

Powertrain for the Honda WR-V in Indian market could be a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The Brazilian market on the other hand will get a 1.5 litre i-VTEC FlexOne engine which kicks out 115 bhp of peak power and 149 Nm of peak torque. The transmission options will include a five speed manual gearbox and a CVT as well.

Hyundai Elite i20 AT

Hyundai Elite i20 is undoubtedly one of the most stylish premium hatchbacks available in Indian market and the South Korean automaker has silently introduced an automatic transmission to the mid trim of the car earlier this month, which has enhanced the appeal further. The car was showcased at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show before introducing the automatic transmission to the Magna trim.

With the mid range trim offered with the four speed automatic transmission, the top trims are also about to receive the AT, which will give the car more premium feel. The South Korean auto major has already announced that it will introduce automatic transmission across its entire range, and the Elite i20 being one of the most popular and bestselling cars from the brand couldn’t be ignored.

The Elite i20 AT comes paired with the 1.4 litre Gamma petrol engine and it churns out 98 bhp of peak power and 132 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai has also introduced six airbags to the premium hatchback, which attracts people who prioritize safety over anything. Apart from the introduction of automatic gearbox, there is no other change in the design and features.

The Hyundai Elite i20 gets a long hood and wrap around wide headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights in the top trims. The headlamp clusters are joined by a sleek grille which also sports a brand logo at the centre. The large radiator grille gets a sleek chrome trim, which makes it very stylish looking, and the front bumper looks equally stylish with wide and large fog lamps.

Toyota Etios Facelift

Toyota is the second largest automaker in the world and in India too, the Japanese car maker has a very strong presence. The Etios is the compact sedan from the company and a facelifted version of the car is all set to launch on 13th September. The facelifted compact sedan was first unveiled in Brazil few months back, and now the Toyota is all set to launch it right ahead of festive season.

The Toyota Etios facelift comes with a revised front fascia which looks much sportier compared to the outgoing model. The front grille gets a black V shaped appearance, while the front bumper too comes pretty stylish with its black look. At the fog lamp enclosures the car features chrome trims, while the air intake gets wide horizontal slats.

The rear fascia sports chrome strip running the length of the boot, and the rear bumper too comes redesigned. The interior of the Toyota Etios compact sedan comes with a revised appearance as well. It features dual tone black and beige dashboard, complemented by beige fabric seats. The air vents at the dashboard comes with chrome trims and the multifunction steering wheel comes wrapped in leather.

Apart from these changes, the car remains same like the outgoing version. Powertrain options include a 1.5 litre petrol engine churning out 88 bhp of peak power and 132 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.4 litre diesel engine kicks out 67 bhp of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque. Both the petrol and diesel engines come paired with five speed manual transmission.

Toyota Liva Facelift

The Toyota Etios Liva is the hatchback sibling of the compact sedan Toyota Etios. Like the sedan sibling the hatchback too has received a facelift, and ready to launch on 13th September. The front fascia of the Liva too remains absolutely same. It also dons a black V shaped front grille, large aggressive looking air intake and chrome trim around the fog lamps.

The Liva comes sans the boot, and unlike the compact sedan sibling it doesn’t get any chrome trim at the rear running through the width. The interior of the Toyota Liva or Toyota Etios Liva comes donning the similar appearance. The dual tone finish gives the car’s cabin a decent look, while the leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel, center focused instrument cluster comes make the car bit appealing as well.

The power source for the hatchback is same with the sedan. Therefore the car too comes with a 1.5 litre petrol and a 1.4 litre diesel engine options, which generate 88 bhp of peak power and 67 bhp of peak power respectively. The peak torque outputs stand at 132 Nm and 170 Nm. A five speed manual gearbox does the transmission duty in both the petrol and diesel models.
