New BMW X1 petrol variant gets power from a 2.0L turbo-four engine making 189 bhp maximum power and 280 Nm of peak torque

BMW India has been on a launch spree and is looking to consolidate its presence in the entry-level luxury buyer’s market. Earlier in May, BMW confirmed that the new flagship 8-Series Coupe will make public debut towards the end of this month and following the announcement was the company’s India website being updated with the re-entry of 330i in the 3-Series.

The Munich-headquartered brand has now introduced the petrol engine equipped XI SUV in India and it has been priced at Rs. 35.75 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The petrol version of X1 is exclusive to the xLine variant for the domestic market though. As the 3-Series has seen the 30i replacing the 20i, the petrol-powered X1 will have the 20i designation.

As part of expanding the petrol portfolio to meet the increasing demands, the X3 30d M Sport has been discontinued and it only gets the 20d diesel and 28i petrol versions resultantly. The affordable petrol SUV from BMW’s fleet of vehicles gets powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which is good enough to produce a power output of 189 bhp and 280 Nm of peak torque.

This means the new petrol develops 9 bhp and 10 Nm more than what it kicked out on its sedan sibling. The motor continues to be pinned with the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It helps the X1 to achieve a zero to 100 kmph acceleration time of 7.7 seconds.
