New Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus is the fastest drop-top R8 ever with 602 bhp and gets an exclusive green paint job
Audi has upped the ante in the supercar space as a new R8 Spyder V10 Plus has been revealed lately. It carries all the more importance as it is the final addition to the globally popular series. Available in an unique ‘micrommata green’ colour scheme, the new R8 makes sure that it has a definitive road presence over rest of the range in terms of physique.
However, apart from the nerdy colour scheme and the foldable roof top, the V10 Plus is almost identical to the standard hardtop variant. Moreover, Audi would have done some modifications to strengthen the chassis for compensating the loss of aerodynamic benefits when the roof is retracted.

The new Audi R8 V10 Plus uses the same 5.2-litre V10 engine which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 602 bhp. Power is sent to all four wheels through a Quattro four-wheel drive system. Audi claims that the zero to 100 kmph acceleration is done in just 3.3 seconds – three tenths quicker than the regular Spyder. The top speed is claimed at 330 kmph – around 10 kmph faster compared to its drop-top cousin.
The Ingolstadt-based luxury manufacturer has utilises a fabric folding roof in place of a hard top like in the new McLaren 570S Spider. Impressively, only 44 kilograms have been added to the overall weight but in contrast the carbon-fibre roof on the 570S Spider is almost negligible at just 2 kg heavier.

Other significant elements included are a low spoiler, black forged alloy wheels and carbon ceramic brakes. On the inside, it depicts the cabin of the standard coupe which was nothing but driver-centric. Several advanced technologies present are optional 4G hotspot, Bang and Olufsen sound system as well as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit. In India, Audi offers the R8 only in V10 Plus Coupe version but it could see expansion in the near future.
