The mysterious SUV spotted in India is believed to be from GWMC Haval; brand entry likely in next two years
Two brand new global automakers entering India this year as MG Motor and Kia are betting big on the vast domestic market by kicking their innings off with premium SUVs. PSA Groupe has already confirmed that it has devised Citroen brand for India with the first product scheduled to roll out by the end of 2021.
Another car brand reportedly waiting to make its mark locally has been Great Wall Motors that specialises in passenger UVs. The largest seller of SUVs in China already has its technical centre established in Karnataka for Artificial Intelligence and EV coding. GWMC (Great Wall Motors Company) appears to have begun hiring personnel for its automotive operations as well.
The first vehicle from Great Wall is expected to be launched around 2021-22 and the Chinese brand could take advantage of the wide range of SUVs it has with Haval. Great Wall has witnessed Haval H6 standing at the top of the sales charts as the best-selling SUV in China for nearly six years.
Just last month, 25,728 units of the H6 were sold and it contributed to more than one-third of the total sales volume for the 35-year-old brand. GWMC aims to retail about 1.2 million years in 2019 and it is a highly achievable target considering that more than a million units were delivered last year.
India could play an integral role in the Hebel-based company’s global expansion and the first glimpses ahead of its debut have appeared on the internet. Haval H6 Coupe has been spied for the first time in India hinting that it could be the first to arrive in the next two years. It is sold in China with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine developing 169 hp.
The powertrain is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission while an all-wheel-drive system is offered as optional. The Haval H6 Coupe has an aggressive exterior with hexagonal front grille, sleek headlamps, LED DRLs mounted above round-shaped fog lamps, rear end with horizontal LED tail lamps, chrome boot applique, dual exhaust, skid plates, etc.
The premium interior boasts a centrally-mounted touchscreen infotainment system and a slew of driver assistive and safety features.
